All Nauset students are required to pass one-semester of Physical Education / Health Education during their 9th, 10th and 11th grades. There are three health components and three P.E. components included in graduation requirements. Each semester of passing work receives ½ credit. Students are also offered various fitness-based elective courses.
DEPARTMENT POLICIES
Students must dress for class 80% of marking period to be considered for a letter grade. Less than 80% would be an automatic failure.
Classes can only be made up for field trips or medical/sickness reasons. Students will not be allowed to make up a class for not dressing.
In season athletes that do not dress for class on day of game or practice will not be allowed to practice or play athletics that same da.y
Students can take no more than 2 elective classes in (1) semester and can’t be the same course.
FRESHMEN PHYSICAL EDUCATION and HEALTH
PE01 – 1/2 Credit - 1/2 Year
During Freshmen PE and Health, students will be introduced to tennis, pickle ball, ultimate frisbee, softball, flag football and soccer as well as have the opportunity to play indoor net sports during inclement weather. These activities are often a choice for lifetime physical activity. All classes will begin with a dynamic warm-up and stretching. During this course, students will learn the components of skill development, participation, fitness, specific training guidelines, game strategies, fundamentals and rules of play.
All freshmen health classes are paperless which allows the teacher to use a variety of applications on the students’ iPads. The classroom subjects that will be covered during this course will include: The 6 Components of Health, Responsible Relationships, Reproductive Health, Alcohol and Tobacco Awareness, and Illegal and Prescription Drug Abuse/Addiction.
This is a beginners course that is designed for students who are interested in improving their fitness through strength and conditioning. Students will learn proper lifting techniques and follow designed workouts. Emphasis is placed on safety procedures and proper execution of a variety of movements. This class is for all students that are interested in strength and conditioning.

Fight stress and find serenity. Yoga is a mind/body practice that combines physical poses, controlled breathing and meditation or relaxation. Yoga may help reduce stress, lower blood pressure and heart rate. Keeping muscles in a constant alert state expends a great amount of energy, which then is unavailable when your muscles are called upon to really function. Students will participate in yoga and relaxation activities.

This class is for those who have taken Yoga and Relaxation 1.

All classes will begin with 10 minutes of dynamic warm-up and stretching and conclude with 10 minutes of cool down stretching. During this course, students will learn the components of skill development, participation, fitness, specific training guidelines, game strategies, fundamentals and rules of play. Tournament play will be included. Effort, attitude, and teamwork is the name of the game!
Do you like to be active outside? If so, this is the class for you! This is a semester-long course that will take place outside every day possible. Activities include: Outdoor Adventure High Challenge Course, mountain biking, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding, beach walks and hiking. Students are transported in a school van to various local hiking trails in the National Seashore and Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. Indoor activities in inclement weather will include indoor climbing walls and various aerobic activities. A highlight in the past for this course includes a full day field trip to the Provincetown Dunelands. This course is active, creative and fun. If you like adventure, this is for you!
This class is designed for all levels of fitness. A variety of activities are included to make fitness fun! The training will focus on goal setting, positive self image and overall fitness.
The use of Keiser air compression and cardio machines, free weights, kettlebells, medicine balls, physio balls, and strength training bands will all be incorporated in this class. This course may be repeated.
