Most NAU scholarships use the Scholarship Universe platform for applications. After reading the requirements and eligibility below carefully, you will be ready to submit when applications open in January.
SES awards will require specific essays about your graduate student experience, including e.g., your research and community activities. See below.
TIP: To confirm eligibility you will need to identify your "Major" as your degree program.
All awards will also require:
basic contact information
information on US citizenship and AZ residency (affects eligibility)
information on your degree progress and GPA
unofficial transcripts (you can download these from Louie)
whether you have completed your FAFSA application (this is interpreted as an indicator of financial need, which is a criterion for some awards)
The scholarships listed below are specifically for current SES graduate students who will be returning in the next academic year. Review this table with your advisor to determine the best matches for your work.
If you have not yet started your degree or are about to graduate, these awards are not available, but you may find other NAU or external scholarships in Scholarship Universe.
Scholarship Universe also has details on these components

for MS Environmental Sciences and Policy students
The Wyss Scholars program at NAU is generously funded by the Wyss Foundation to support graduate education of a new generation of leaders in US land conservation working with NGOs, tribes, state or federal agencies after graduation. These scholarships are intended to help train and support future conservation leaders by providing an in-school award, summer stipend, professional development and networking opportunities, and a post-graduation award. MS ESP graduate students in their first year are eligible to apply for this award. The deadline is in January. For more information and to apply see the Wyss Scholars Announcement.
for a 3 Minute Research Presentation at the SES Graduate Research Symposium in April
A former NAU professor, Dr. Errol “Monte” Montgomery, is the founder of Montgomery & Associates, a water resources firm based in Tucson, Arizona, and has generously supported many SES graduate students. In 2009, he established the Montgomery Prize for the best graduate student presentation about completed research. Evaluation criteria include the communication skills demonstrated by the presenter as well as the quality of the research. Research with a focus on water will be given a slight preference, but all disciplines are eligible. The award can only be won once.
