ABOUT ME

I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself to you. My name is Michelle Grauer and this is my 3rd year teaching! I am beyond happy to be a part of the Falcon family here at Western Peaks Elementary! I graduated from Northern Arizona University and I currently hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Life Sciences. I was born and raised in Arizona and am originally from Phoenix but I have lived in Surprise for the past 19 years. I have had many opportunities in my life so far and I am eager to begin another journey of being your students 2nd grade teacher!

My background began with a thought, a hope, and a dream. A dream that became a reality with the help of my family: my husband of 20 years, as well as my children: my son Nathan, who is nearly 23, and my daughter, Abby, who is 16 who were my coaches, my inspiration, and my cheerleaders. And like my family, I will create a future for my students to build upon as well as a place where students can feel like they are home. I have chosen education as a career because I believe that education is perhaps the most important function that is essential in all cultures. Teachers individually and collectively can not only change the world but improve upon it.

CLASSROOM AMBASSADORS

I believe that having animals in the classroom brings an exciting opportunity for students to learn about care and responsibility. Students will be able to feed and care for our leopard gecko, Sonora, as well as our axolotl, Noname (No-nam-ay). Sonora  is a beautiful, female, 3 year old Leopard Gecko! She is very sweet and lovable and makes a great addition to my classroom! Rengoku is a handsome, male, crested gecko! These arboreal lizards are quite unique as they are one of only a handful of frugivorous lizards! Not only do they like munching on insects, but they also love fruit! Also known as “eyelash geckos” these lizards have a mesmerizing appearance, captivating behaviors, and intriguing adaptations that generate and inspire awe and fascination. Rengoku is a sensitive gecko, and will not be held by students. As he is terrestrial, permission must be granted by parents/guardians for him to reside within the classroom. Since Sonora is land dwelling, students will be given opportunities of interaction, taking precautionary methods with washing hands before and after touching/handling. Because of this, there must be a permission slip on file from ALL parents/guardians. Here is the link for the permission slip.
