Want to join my lab at UTEP?
I am recruiting Ph.D. students to start in Fall 2027. Students are welcome to work on my current projects or develop their own ideas.
In my lab, we will integrate field and modeling-based techniques to understand how wildlife responds to changes (human-driven or not) in the landscape and across time. We will then translate this new knowledge to help management, conservation, and restoration efforts. We will conduct fieldwork and data collection in the United States southwest with opportunities to get involved in work abroad. Our work will make use of UTEP's resources like the Indio Mountains Research Station, Biodiversity Collections, and the genomic and imaging cores.
Students applying to my lab should have an interest in wildlife ecology, landscape ecology and connectivity, emerging technologies for wildlife monitoring, and emerging wildlife disease and threats. I welcome those with interest in conducting fieldwork to document biodiversity, distributions, and natural history, as well as those with interest in using and helping expand museum collections. Students interested in working with agencies on projects that address conservation and management questions are also very welcome to apply.
