Speech and Language Assessments

Speech and Language Assessments

Speech and language assessments occur during your child's initial placement in Special Education and every three years during their triennial IEP. Speech and language assessments occur over the course of multiple 1-2 hours assessment sessions during the school day. During the assessment, your speech language pathologist will look into all area's of your child's communication which includes articulation, expressive/receptive language, voice, speech fluency, and social skills and will conduct more in-depth assessment in the areas that you are concerned about.

At the start of the assessment process, you will receive two documents from your case manager that you will have to sign. These include:

  • an "Assessment Plan" that will allow all providers to begin assessing your child. Without your signature, we cannot begin assessment.

  • a Medi-Cal billing form that will help to provide the school with funding to provide special education services. This form does not affect or change your current health insurance plan.

You will also be receiving a copy of your Procedural Safeguards or Parent Rights. If at any point you would like to have your rights reviewed, please contact your case manager.

Before your child's assessment begins, please fill out the Parent Input Form to provide your speech language pathologist with information regarding your child's history, developmental milestones, and to relay your speech concerns.

If you have any speech concerns that you would like to discuss with your academy's speech language pathologist, please contact them with the information under "Contact Us".
