HOW TO Format an in-text citation (also called parenthetical citation)
- Locate the Works Cited entry for the referenced source
 - Identify the first component of the Works Cited entry- typically the author’s last name.

** NOTE: if there is no author, use the title of the work which should be abbreviated if it is very long
- If you are using a print source, locate the page number.
 - Place the in-text citation as close as possible to the material being cited and where a pause would naturally occur, typically, at the end of the sentence.
 - Sentence punctuation goes outside the closing parenthesis

- In-text citation should not repeat information given in the text. If you include an author's name in a sentence, you do not need to repeat it in your parenthetical citation.
 - Long quotes (anything over four typed lines) should be set in block quote format.
 - LOOK UP how to cite sources that are a little bit different
 - Integrate and PUNCTUATE your direct quotes correctly correctly
