Essential Question: What impact does conditions of setting have on a character?

Like other genres studied to date, historical fiction examines humanity, but often approaches characters and experiences in a more historic context. Student discussions trace connections between the setting in their novels and historical documents and information. Students will explore documents provided in Document Based Questions (DBQ) and choose a stance based on the evidence they find. This unit ends with the students writing an argumentative essay connected to the essential question.
