Essential Question: How do conditions of setting influence members of a community?

Students read, study, and discuss a variety of free verse novels in order to explore how acceptance and identity in a community are demonstrated through these works. Students explore how individuals in fictional and nonfictional texts interact within their greater communities. This unit concludes with an informational essay in response to the essential question, literature read, and media viewed.
