Role of a School Social Worker
School Social Workers collaborate with students, staff, and parents to support student mental health, which promotes student academic success.
They provide school-based support and are NOT affiliated with the state.
A School Social Worker is a "Feelings Nurse."
Reasons to see a School Social Worker include but are not limited to:
Managing emotions (anxiety, stress, anger, sadness, feeling overwhelmed, etc.)
Loss/Grief
Learning coping skills to deal with difficult situations
Self-harm or thoughts of self-harm
Personal safety concerns
Social or family conflicts
Bullying or peer pressure
Self-esteem or negative thinking
Needing resources such as food or clothing
Just to talk/introduce yourself - I am here as a support for students!
Services Provided by a School Social Worker
Short term individual and/or group counseling
Address topics such as those listed above
Crisis prevention and intervention
Communication with students, staff, and parents to support student success
Assessments and interventions for students
Teach social-emotional learning lessons
Help connect students and parents to community resources

The School Social Worker is available to provide tools, resources, and support to help you succeed during your high school years. The School Social Worker can also provide strategies students can take with them after graduation, such as coping skills that can help when dealing with difficult situations and emotions beyond high school.
