Our new Spanish teacher, Ms. Carrington has loved Spanish for as long as she can remember. “I loved Dora the Explorer as a kid, and I started taking Spanish classes as soon as I began school,” she said. Her passion grew more and more throughout high school when she chose to keep studying even after completing her requirements. “By my senior year, I knew I never wanted to stop sharing that excitement or lose the connection that language gave me to another part of the world,” she explained.
After her first quarter at NCHS, she describes her experience as “nothing but positive.” She’s been impressed by how “thoughtful and motivated” students are and how supportive the teachers and staff have been. “It really feels like everyone is cheering each other on,” she said, highlighting the sense of community and school pride she’s felt since day one. Her main goal this year is “to make a positive impact on my students and their families” and to hear “Spanish being used not just in the classroom, but in the hallways too.”
Outside of teaching, she enjoys playing board games and singing at church with her boyfriend and his family, spending time with her two cats, and relaxing with video games like Stardew Valley and Minecraft. She even jokes that she sometimes dreams in Spanish: “It happens to me more often than not, especially when I’m sick.” For students nervous about learning a new language, her advice is simple: “Go in with an open mind… it takes time, but with patience, curiosity, and participation, you’ll be impressed with what you can learn in just one year.”

The new NCHS band instructor Ms. Hoock has been surrounded by music her whole life. She began in piano lessons around the age of six after being inspired by her father. She explains, “My dad played when he was younger and wanted his kids to do music. But my mom said that even as a baby, whenever they played music, I would always move to music… so it’s always been in my bones.” She later picked up playing the trumpet in fifth grade when she declared her love and passion for music and ultimately led her to pursue music as a career.
After just her first quarter here at NCHS, she describes its music program as one big “family and community.” She admires the way the band has great determination for excellence and learning while also making it fun saying, “that is what is so special about our marching show this year with the dragons.” For students who are new to music or feel intimidated by it, her advice is motivating: “It’s never too late to learn an instrument or learn how to sing, don’t be scared… It’s a fun place to be.” It is very common here at NCHS for people to start being a part of band while in high school without any previous experience.
Outside of music she really enjoys the outdoors, saying, “I like to go hiking, it’s probably my favorite, and I really like painting. It’s just nice to get the rays.” Looking towards the future, she hopes to see progression throughout the whole band, growth in the band and choir, and the current members to stay involved in music, expressing, “I just want to encourage people to stick with it through high school." She’s also helping expand outreach by teaching beginning band lessons at local schools that feed into NCHS.

NCHS is in the process of constructing a pavillion on the south side of the building. The new pavilion will be a new outdoor space for students and staff to use during class, at lunch, or for extra curricular meetings before and after school.
From dirt, to forms, to concrete preparation, construction is moving along. New building sites are always interesting to watch. Keep your eyes peeled as the construction continues.

Homecoming Queen Emma Behrmann
Emma was crowned 2025 Homecoming Queen at the football game.
Homecoming Reflections
Emma shared, "I’m very grateful that I had the opportunity to participate in the coronation with some of my closest friends! It was a very fun, special night for all of us! I enjoyed all of the fun dress-up days and festivities of Homecoming week. I couldn’t have asked for anything better!
Student Council Co-Sponsor Mrs. Robinson reflected, "I have received many compliments on this year's theme, which encouraged the parade floats to be exceptionally creative and colorful. Those of us who were building floats could see early on that there would be some good competition. Any time you see TWO fog machines come out, you know you these classes are coming to win. I think everyone stepped up their game, and we ended up having one of the longest and most well-attended parades that I can recall. The dance was especially colorful this year as well because the student council purchased foam glow sticks, glasses, and necklaces for everyone in attendance, and there were certainly a lot of students in attendance. We sold over 320 tickets to the dance, which is a lot when you consider the fact that our entire enrollment is just 359 students. I really hope the students enjoyed the week as much as I did."
Student Council President Lily Emge shared, "This was one of the most successful Homecoming weeks that we have hosted throughout my time at NCHS. I feel as though the colorful and unique theme really encouraged students and staff to participate in the dress-up days, float building, and other Homecoming related activities. I felt an increase in the general school spirit throughout the week and enjoyed seeing everyone in a good mood and working well together! I would like to thank all of the student council members, students, staff, and especially our phenomenal student council sponsors Mrs. Robinson and Mrs. Luessenheide for their contributions to the exciting week!

One of the highlights of the HOMECOMING PEP ASSEMBLY is the competition for which class is the loudest and MOST SPIRITED.
And the Class of 2026 SENIORS were here for it, cheering so loudly with the cheerleaders and winning the coveted SPIRIT STICK.
All the other classes gave it a valiant effort as well.
JUNIORS above and below.
SOPHOMORES above and below
The FRESHMEN gave it their best effort as well (and there are a lot of freshmen).
Never a disappointment is the HORNET VARSITY FOOTBALL SENIOR dance.
The Pep Assembly wouldn't be as AWESOME as it is without the NCHS MARCHING BAND who plays the entire time.
The CHEERLEADERS and the STINGERS provide the spirit and the moves to imbue the students with all that Homecoming ENERGY.
The TUG OF WAR competition pitted the JUNIORS against the SENIORS, including brothers Zearon and Byron. All bragging rights go to Byron.
The FRESHMEN (above) made it to the final round of the TUG OF WAR but lost to the DOMINATING SENIORS (below).
