Veterans Day, formerly known as Armistice Day, was originally celebrated on November 11th to commemorate the end of hostilities in World War I. The purpose was also to remember those in America and around the globe who had given their life in the service to freedom in World War I. Much has changed since 1918, and Veterans Day now includes rememberance and honor of all men and women who have served - or who currently serve - in times of war and peace. Honors Society members Meadow Simmons, Hanley Presswood, and Grace Stein volunteered their time before school on Friday, November 7 to help the American Legion display flags to observe Veterans Day.

Have you noticed a new door to the Weight Room in the hallway near Assembly Hall? This is one of the many changes NCHS recently made as it completed a remodel of the Assembly Hall locker rooms. The locker rooms were designed in the 1970s, so they were definitely in need of a revamp. Athletic Director Shaun Renth stated that the remodel was “definitely necessary” because “they (locker rooms) were not originally designed well and the setup was not conducive for what we need them for today. He added, “I believe that it will be very beneficial to our students and to visiting teams, specifically during basketball season. The remodel will give traveling teams a better experience at NCHS by having an additional locker room." Renth explained the new setup:“The boys’ locker room has been divided into two, and the new area that came from this division is used for boys' Athletic P.E. and for away teams. The original locker room is now partially used for storage. The girls’ locker room and floor plan have been completely remodeled. There is also a hallway that now leads to the boys’ and girls’ locker rooms and the weight room.” Coach Renth concluded, “This was a good use of funds for our students and student-athletes. Mike Miller and the summer staff did a great amount of work to get this remodel finished.” If you see Mike Miller, make sure to thank him and his staff for committing themselves to getting this project done.

From inside the women's locker room. So much room for activities! All three locker rooms also come equipped with updated restroom facilities.
This new hallway gives students better access to the weight room, allows easier movement for teams to locker rooms during tournaments, and provides a handicapped accessible restroom for coaching staff and officials.
The Athletic Department is thankful for more storage space for uniforms and equipment.

See You at the Pole is a global event where young people meet around their school's flagpole on the fourth Wednesday of September to pray for their school, community, and country. This event began in 1990 and has continued ever since.
At NCHS, students sang songs, encouraged one another, and then everyone took turns praying.
FCA and First Priority members participate in prayers.

Homecoming float building is a rite of passage that is fun and stressful all at the same time. These juniors and freshmen looked like they went all in to create the "winning" floats.
Did you ever think you would be building a large football helmet with your friends?
Impressive, freshmen...they pulled out the measuring tape.
These three are clearly taking a much-needed break.
TEAMWORK makes the dream work...excellent job, juniors.

Mr. Redman instructs students in Mrs. Robinson class.
NCHS is proud to welcome a Mr. Michael Redman as a student teacher this semester. Recently, Mrs. Spenner interviewed Mr. Redman to help us get to know him better. Mr. Redman is currently a student at Eastern Illinois University, where he is completing his degree in English Education. One of his most memorable experiences as a student at EIU has been completing his honors thesis. He shared, "It challenged me to think critically, manage a long-term project, and solidified my passion for teaching and research." When asked what inspired Mr. Redman to pursue teaching, he explained that he "believes that every student can learn when we take the time to understand their backgrounds and perspectives. Education has the power to change lives, and I want to be part of that process by helping students find their voice and grow in confidence." Mr. Redman is "most looking forward to learning from the faculty and contributing to the collaborative culture here." He stated, "I’m also eager to build relationships with students and to continue developing my skills as an educator in a supportive, professional environment.
Welcome to NCHS, Mr. Redman!

Community events depend on volunteers to be successful, and for the 16th year, NCHS students have shown up to dedicate time and energy to Angel for Autism. This organization has built and / or supplied items for sensory rooms for students in more than 20 schools. The ripple effect of donating a few hours is immeasurable.
Kylie and Ella wrapped the bridges with lights to add fun and safety to the glo run experience.
Lily and Parker organized the table of glow supplies for the runners and families.
Parker, Rylee, Roark, and Clara ran the pre-registration area to help runners and walkers pick up packets.
Anna and Rachael test out designs to use for face painting, while Bella helps a runner with temporary tattoos.
Reise, Khloe, and Lila practice operating the digital photo booth. Hours of fun in one location.
The fun happens when the sun goes down at glo runs. Anessa, Lily, and NCHS alum Griffin were ready to direct runners and walkers safely.
Mrs. Robinson worked what she labeled the "Survivor" section of the course due to the extra darkness and tiki torches lighting the way in the darkness.
