School Counselors assist students in developing the skills necessary to achieve academic success and personal growth. This is done in developmentally appropriate ways based upon the needs of students. Our approach is collaborative in nature and includes school staff, parents, and community resources when appropriate. Each counselor at Northampton Area Middle School is assigned to a grade level and moves with that group of students throughout their middle school years. Some services we provide are as follows: individual counseling, group counseling, classroom lessons, small group focus sessions, coordinating and facilitating parent meetings, making referrals to/collaborating with available in school resources, making referrals to/collaborating with available out of school resources, assisting with student scheduling, assisting with new student scheduling/orientations, and initiating gifted evaluation testing. The Schools Counselors are actively involved in our School Wide Positive Behavior Supports (SWPBS) program, coordinate and facilitate all tier 2 school-wide supports, assist with Konkrete Konnection (Olweus school wide bullying prevention program) including our Kids Against Bullying (KAB) program, 504 case managers, Student Assistance Program (SAP) members, and assist students and parents with transitions (elementary school to middle school, middle school to high school). Every student’s success is important to us. Please contact us should you need assistance.
