"Bewitched (Bothered and Bewildered)" is a show tune and popular song from the 1940 Rodgers and Hart musical Pal Joey. It is part of the Great American Songbook. The song was introduced by Vivienne Segal on December 25, 1940, in the Broadway production during Act I, Scene 6, and again in Act II, Scene 4, as a reprise. Segal also sang the song on both the 1950 hit record and in the 1952 Broadway revival. It was performed by Carol Bruce in the 1954 London production.

New Forest March by Johnnie Vinson
This march was written in the traditional British style. The opening strains are folk-like in nature with underlying modal harmonies, while the stately trio is reminiscent of the processional style of Elgar and other British composers. The New Forest refers to a region in southern England established as a royal hunting preserve by William the Conqueror around the year 1079, which has remained largely unchanged since ancient times.
Wind Song by Robert W. Smith
Featuring a melody that is simple, gentle and memorable, WIND SONG is a lyrical work by Robert W. Smith. We have selected this piece as a salute to his contributions to the band world. Mr. Smith taught at Troy State University for four years, directing the Sound of the South Marching Band and the Symphony Band. In 2001, he left Troy to take a more full-time position with Warner Brothers Publications. His position with Warner Brothers, then later Alfred Music Publishing, took him all over the world, acting as guest conductor and clinician with many ensembles. Robert W. Smith died due to complications following heart surgery in Montgomery, Alabama, on September 21, 2023. He was 64.
Tonight we will share this piece without a conductor - a technique that we've recently rehearsed to help develop our listening and teamwork skills.
Bayside Reflections, Composed and Conducted by Lisa Galvin
Guest Artist available through grant from Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Performing Arts Grant
Inspired by the scenery and colorful lakes of northern Michigan, “Bayside Reflections” is a perfect addition to your developing band’s library. The simple yet strong beginning gives way to a beckoning, nautical slow section introduced by a solo trumpet, followed by a recapitulation to the opening themes.
Wind Ensemble
Broadway One-Step by Karl King, arr. John Paynter
This march is in a traditional Dixieland Band Style. The original song was written by famous march master Karl King. The arrangement was made by legendary Northwestern University Band director, John Paynter. For more information about Mr. Paynter, you can visit the link in the program notes on the online concert program.
The Spirit Of the Solitary Defender, Composed and Conducted by Lisa Galvin
Guest Artist available through grant from Jeanne B. McCoy Community Center for the Performing Arts Grant
This exciting piece depicts the many facets of the once-endangered jaguar. The longing opening statements and animated main theme transition into a soloistic, lonesome melodic section that offers a haunting conversation amongst several key instruments. An energetic pursuit and capture of prey is depicted by several percussion instruments, and is followed by a return to the original theme with a powerful finish.
On Cloud Nine by Richard Saucedo
On Cloud Nine is an energetic composition that begins with a flashy opening segment that features woodwind flourishes with powerful brass interjections. Following a slow and beautiful lyric setting of the theme featuring solos on horn and flute, the fast tempo returns and powers the piece to an exciting climax. Richard L. Saucedo retired in 2013 as Director of Bands and Performing Arts Department Chairman at Carmel High School in Carmel, Indiana and now travels around the world as an adjudicator, keynote speaker, clinician and guest conductor.
