The JJHS math team consists of students who are from various grades, more engaged and familiar with a lot of math. Since there are students from different grades the math team is a vibrant assembly of students with different perspectives and many different experiences. To accompany these students, there are math enthusiasts who are more into specific mathematics subjects. The newcomers are learning more about math concepts while they come across more and more complex theories and intricate problem-solving techniques.
When these math team students gather alongside for practice, the atmosphere is filled with curiosity and passionateness. These students engage in spirited discussions, prospecting everything about mathematics from algebra and geometry. This also pursues teamwork and builds strong relationships between other individuals who are looking forward to excellence.
This year, the JJHS Math Team has a total of 3 competitions to go through. The first competition on November 16, was the Marmion Academy Competition, which allows the coach to select 10 Mathletes from their school to represent them. These 10 candidates are split into 2 teams of 5 who will compete in 2 different rounds. The individual round and the team round. Next, our Patriot Mathletes have a small amount of time to practice for their next competition, the St. Francis Competition on January 25, 2025. Last but not least, our Patriot Mathletes will compete in the MathCounts Competition, the most awaited and the hardest of all the competitions. Best of luck to our math team!
High School Musical is Coming to JJHS -
by Evelyn E and Gordana S
High School Musical is coming to Jefferson! High School Musical Movie was made in 2006 and became a trilogy. A few years ago Disney+ released a four season show to then continue the theme of High School Musical called High School Musical -The Musical, The Series.
All the movies and shows have one thing in common, musicals and theater can bring all sorts of characters together to create and connect as one.
Many schools have adapted the film to be one of their musicals and now Jefferson will present this spring! Starring a basketball player and a science genius, High School Musical is about the two trying to find their path to their true love: Music.
In a recent interview with Mr. Colbert, the musical director, said what he likes most about directing musicals, “... is seeing the students become the character." Colbert says, “ They could be a quiet, nice student, but be a loud, obnoxious character on stage.” The transformation is really exciting!
If you are unsure and scared to audition, Mr. Colbert wants to let the students know, “ It is amazing what one can accomplish when one doesn’t know what one can’t do.” What he means is that you don’t know what you are capable of if you don’t try.
Try Out information can be found on the Jefferson website or see Mr. Colbert for details.
