Canvas and Remind are our primary communication tools with students. Canvas is the district’s classroom management system with the ability to upload files, post announcements, create discussions, submit assignments, etc. Remind is an online tool and app for teachers to quickly and easily communicate with students and vice versa.
Everyday, teachers post the agenda and homework and any relevant links for the day through Canvas. This system is especially useful if a child is absent due to illness or to performance music small group lessons.
Teachers will communicate any changes to work, assignments, and/or announcements using this platform as well as quick announcements through Remind. Students need to be in the habit of checking their classes throughout the day, even after they have had class. Students must refresh their page to see updated announcements and links throughout the day.
If not done previously: Parents can create a new account which will require them to obtain a pairing code from their student(s) to connect them to their student(s) and their corresponding class(es). The parent will need to log on as the student to obtain the unique pairing code for each student. Once they are attached to their student, they will gain access to all of their classes going forward as the student remains in District 203 schools. There is an instructional video linked on the sign in screen for the parents that you can watch to walk yourself through this process. Learning Services has also provided a link to a document on the district website page for parents.
Habits for Successful Learning
Keep track of TIME. One of the most important habits is to manage your time. Our schedule helps do that by starting live instruction on a consistent time schedule.
Manage your OBLIGATIONS. Keep a record of what your assignments are and when they are due. Use a planner or Google Keep. Check Canvas throughout the day and email your teacher. If you find you are spending too much time on an assignment, reach out to your teacher!!
Have a dedicated SPACE at home. Where can you work with minimal distractions in your home? A bedroom is often times more distracting than a kitchen or dining room table.
Use your CHROMEBOOK. Make folders, create bookmarks, and know where to access materials for each of your classes.
When absent, it is the student's RESPONSIBILITY to first go to Canvas and to then communicate with their teacher. Yes, you did miss things. We will help you with a plan to make up work, but you must be proactive.
Online Etiquette. Students are required to adhere to digital citizenship guidelines - THINK: Is it True? Is it Hurtful? Is it Inspiring? Is it Necessary? Is it Kind? Think before you post.
Naperville 203 Middle School Student Handbook - please be aware of rules and school procedures.
Infinite Campus is the online gradebook. Standards Based Grading is used to determine students progress and this is the current junior high grading language. Teachers use the emails provided in Infinite Campus to communicate with parents - please ensure it is an email address that is checked regularly.
Parent(s) and students all have their own unique accounts. If a parent doesn’t have access, they need to contact the district in order to get their account. Parent(s) need their own account in order to register for conferences:
