COURSE OVERVIEW
All pupils are offered the opportunity to study Design and Technology subjects in S1 and S2. Over the 2 years, pupils will complete projects which cover the main D&T subjects: Graphic Communication, Design & Manufacture, Practical Craft Skills.
S1 - 1 lessons per week
S2 - 2 lesson per week
S1 DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY
A focus on manual graphics techniques. The basics are really important!! Sketching, rendering and a little model making across Art & Tech too.
Understanding where materials come from enables us to be more informed designers. We also take a look at how products have changed over time during this project through a History linked project.
Pupils are able to develop practical skills in wood, metal and plastic projects. Developing safe working practices are key in this part of the course.
S2 DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY
Pupils move onto studying computer graphics. In this section you will begin exploring Computer Aided Design & Desk Top Publishing Software.
The focus for this project is sustainability, architecture and model making. Develop your creativity whilst trying to design a sustainable living space.
Strengthen your practical skills through a wooden memo holder project. Pupils develop their use of machines and tools. Here there is a large focus on applying a high quality finish.
