Finding "the" book

One of my favorite quotes by best-selling author, James Patterson, says

"There is no such thing as a kid who hates reading. There are kids who love reading, and kids who are reading the wrong books."

Matching your son or daughter with "just fit" books is one of the most integral parts of learning to read. A reader should be able to decode more than 95% of the words in a "just fit" book. That way, they aren't too distracted decoding to comprehend the text. Below is a working list of titles and book series to help your new little reader. Once your reader transitions, it's literally like fueling a fire, trying to find the best series to keep him/her reading.

I'm a big fan of series books because new or reluctant readers are often more likely to pick up books with familiar characters! It's an easy "on ramp" to a new book. Please feel free to suggest a series I've missed. I'm always looking to add to my list!
