Introduction

The aim of this presentation is to highlight the relevant social and cultural contexts of different subsections and how they showcase subservience, conformity and social policing within the realm of gender, but also covering other personal and collective identities. Each presenter elaborates on their own chosen subsection relating to our chosen topic and provides evidence for subservience, conformity and social policing in their chosen social group/s, but also within their own lives or lived experiences. Each presenter kept in mind the intersectionality of different social, cultural and other identities highlighted and the impact that these may have. The subsections covered were namely subservience, conformity and social policing present within cross-dressing, religion and issues of bodyweight; as well as contradictory views surrounding trans people and gender non-conformity representation and how queer bodies and identities are socially policed and accepted.
