As a childcare professional you are responsible for creating a safe learning environment for yourself and your students.  Here are some things to consider: 

• set up daily cleaning routines for your care facility

• everything has a place in a safe space

• give your students ownership of the space and have them help keep your school beautiful

• always follow OHSA health and safety procedures 

• be careful when lifting heavy objects and ask for help from other staff members when needed 

As a childcare professional you are responsible for maintaining: 

• a current CPR and AED certification

• a current first aid certification 

• a well-stocked first aid kit

• Emergency contacts for your students 

• a system for reporting incidents on campus and a procedure for notifying families if someone gets hurt in your care 

Emergencies happen.  As a professional you are responsible to develop site safety procedures and practice so that everyone feels safe: 

• Fire safety Plan 

• Earthquake Plan 

• Lockdown Plan 

In addition to practicing for emergency situations it is important to notify families what will happen in case of an emergency
