This pathway is for you if you've ever considered:
working in a day care
a career as a psychologist
serving the community as a Family Service Advocate
Becoming a preschool or TK teacher
The Child Development pathway will teach you more about the developmental stages of infants, toddlers, and young children. You'll learn about how they learn, and how you can support young children as a caregiver.
In this pathway we will explore how to keep children safe, happy, and supported so that they can do what they do best -- take their natural curiousity into the classroom and LEARN.
We will work with daycare assistants, teachers, and folks who spend their time creating ways to learn through PLAY.
When you have completed the pathway you will have the chance to apply for the Child Development Assistant Permit and start your career in the field.
First you will take the Child Growth and Development Course. When you have completed that class you will take Early Childhood Education.
This class teaches the fundamentals of child development. Students learn how infants and children grow, how they learn, and common developmental stages.
This class is a capstone course that builds upon the coursework students completed in their Child Growth and Development foundations course. Students are introduced to careers in childcare. Students learn the foundations of play-based learning; educational activities that build literacy and math skills; and how to work with students with special needs.
