Ms. Skomsvold is an empathetic Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who walks with students as they embark emotional hardships, relational conflicts, and academic distress. She received her Bachelors degree in Psychology from Sonoma State University and a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis of Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific University. Ms. Skomsvold specializes in working with Mood Disorders, Anxiety, Trauma, and Impulsive/Conduct Disorders. She is eclectic in her therapeutic approach as she works from a Client-Centered and Psychodynamic framework while integrating Strength-Based Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and Experiential Therapy to meet each student’s needs.
Ms. Skomsvold facilitates short-term therapy with students at Pioneer Middle School. These sessions are confidential and aimed to provide a safe space for your student to express their emotions, build healthy coping and communication skills, and strengthen their relationships with themselves and others. Ms. Skomsvold provides appropriate recommendations, resources, and referrals to students and family members in order to maintain progress in achieving their personal and academic goals. Additionally, she assists in identifying and managing crises, and collaborates with school staff to ensure each student’s needs are addressed wholistically. She is passionate in helping students overcome tumultuous challenges to reach academic success and socio-emotional growth.
Outside of work, Ms. Skomsvold is an avid Dodgers fan, an animal lover and enjoys spending time with family or going to the beach. She is thrilled for another year at Pioneer. Go Wildcats!
