The PVM Scholars Program is made up of several components, which collectively provide students interested in veterinary medicine with a solid foundation to competitive applicants for veterinary schools across the country. In addition to participating in the Pre-Vet Club, V-CAP, mentoring activities and much more!
PRE-VET CLUB: PVM Scholars are expected to be active participants in the TU Pre-Vet Club, including attending meetings, and participating in service and fundraising events. Membership dues are also required.
Veterinary Clinical Apprenticeship Program (V-CAP): Scholars attend case rounds and observe diagnostic or surgical procedures. Currently clinical rotations include small animal medicine, large animal medicine, dentistry, and necropsy. See below for V-CAP Overview Booklet.
ORIENTATION TO PRE-VETERINARY MEDICINE (APSC 120): Each Spring, scholars are exposed to the do’s and don’ts of the veterinary medicine profession through this interactive and informative course and must obtain a grade of “B” or better prior to obtaining 45 credits to maintain their status as a PVM scholar.
VET-PREP FORUMS: Forums are held throughout the academic year and although they are optional for all students interested in veterinary medicine, PVM scholars are required to attend at least two per semester. Vet-Pre forums include 1) Interviewing for Veterinary School, 2) Applying and Paying for to Veterinary School, 3) The Academic Portfolio, and numerous others presented by veterinarians with expertise in various fields of veterinary medicine, including holistic healing, oncology, dentistry, internal medicine, exotics and much, much more! Some of these forums may be held in conjunction with regularly schedule Pre-Vet Club Meetings.
MENTORING: PVM scholars are matched with mentors (of their choice whenever possible) based on geographic location and specialty interests. Regular meetings are required between PVM scholars and mentors where mentors review the scholars’ progress, offer advice, answer questions and more.
