March is National Reading Month!
To celebrate, 3rd graders are having a reading challenge to see how many pages they can read in the month of March, at home and in the classroom.
Students have been provided reading logs for home and in class. Adults at home must initial reading done at home for pages to count. Students should log every reading session; books do not have to be finished in order to be logged. There are extras available in the "Resources" tab below and available in class.
Logs may be turned in on Fridays.
There is also a bonus assignment available for books that have been complated. It is available in class and in the "Resource" tab below.
Prizes start as low as one page read.
Q: Does it have to be physical chapter books?
A: No! It can be picture books, graphic novels, audiobooks, magazines, articles, anything! A page is a page.
Q: Will my student get a bad grade if they do not read enough pages?
A: No, this challenge does not affect grades at all. It is only meant to encourage reading.
Q: Does it count if I read to my student?
A: Absolutely! Read to them or read with them, it all counts!
Q: When does my student turn in their log?
A: Logs may be turned in on Fridays or when they are full.
Q: What about the reading my student does in class?
A: It is all being counted! They have logs that teachers may sign off on in class, and I automatically add our group reading.
Q: How can I help encourage my student to read?
A: Read in front of them! National Reading month is meant to encourage reading in all ages. Teachers are displaying how many pages have read at home on our whiteboards to also help encourage them.
