Weekly Objectives
English Language Art and Reading :
There will be no spelling tests until after the spelling bee. This should allow your child to focus on their spelling bee words at home. They will need to be able to spell them VERBALLY. We will not be studying these words in class.
Starting this week, we will officially be starting "STAAR Wednesdays" in ELAR. We will be going over STAAR-like questions and breaking them down. We will also be focusing heavily on our written responses using the RACES strategy (Restate the question, Answer the question, Cite the text, Explain your evidence, and Sum up your answer). This will continue until the STAAR test is complete.
We have started our new Wonders book! Our Units 1-2 books were sent home the previous week. These units deal with expository texts, informative texts, and argumentative texts.
Math Module 2 - Topic F(Lesson 26, 27): 2-step word problems including addition and subtraction. 3 digit Subtraction Decomposig twice, estimating diffrences.
Science / Social Studies This week we will work on our geography unit and include natural resources and humans impact on the environment.

Meet the Teachers
Welcome Back!
Ms. Barter, Mr. Moore, and Mrs. Ogden are so excited about meeting the incoming 3rd graders and starting school next week! We thought this would be a good time to introduce ourselves and let you know a little bit about what to expect this year. Watch for a Remind message on Friday about our first newsletter of the year!
Ms. Barter teaches Math, the students this year will be expanding their knowledge on Arrays, multiplication, division, 2-D and 3-D shapes, reading time, area, fractions, rounding, comparing numbers, place value, and more! We as a class will also be incorporating and developing writing skills through word problems and well-rounded responses.
Mr. Moore teaches English Language Arts and Reading. He is a passionate writer and hopes to pass that passion along. Students will dive deeper into genre, author's purpose, grammar, as well as improving rhetorical skills. Throughout the year, students will be building writing portfolios. All pieces will relate to lessons and students will collaborate and share during the writing process.
Mrs. Ogden teaches Science and Social Studies. Both classes will be developing writing responses to text based questions throughout the year. For social studies, the students will be learning about communities, founding fathers, Cultural Heritage, geography, environment, government, and economics. In Science, the students will be learning matter, force, motion, energy, earth, space, and ecosystems.
