Welcome to Dance!
Welcome to Dance!
A special THANK YOU to Mrs. Wozniak for guest teaching a Mindfulness workshop! Check out some of the fun activities students participated in!
We continue to explore our Ballet unit this grading cycle. Dancers practice barre and center exercises and learned ballet vocabulary.
Check out some of the classes below working hard and having fun!
In dance class, students are exposed to a variety of dance styles, with a foundation in performance dance.
We begin applying the groundwork of dance in ballet. From there, we springboard to jazz, musical theater, hip hop, contemporary, and learn about dances from different cultures.
Students will also have the opportunity to dabble in choreography in class to explore their own voice through movement and dance.
Students attend dance class every 3rd school day and each class typically consists of dancer warm-up/stretching, technique, and rehearsal for upcoming performances.
We have 2 main performances each school year. The fall performance serves as a skills-based recital showcase, and the spring performance is a collaboration with theater and music to produce a musical.
Some of our musical highlights include: Aladdin Jr., Alice in Wonderland Jr., Beauty and the Beast Jr., The Little Mermaid Jr., Seussical: The Musical, as well as a variety of John Jacobs classics! This encourages students to really become a “triple threat,” giving them exposure to all of the performing arts.
Students may also participate in additional performance opportunities within the community!
Dance Required Uniform:
Dance & P.E. Uniform Appropriate attire is an important component of dance because it allows the student to move freely without being restricted. Dance attire also allows both the student and instructor to see body alignment clearly, which leads to more advanced technique and injury prevention. Hair should be pulled away from the face for Dance & P.E. Students should come with hair ties or headbands as needed. Teachers will not style student’s hair for Dance or P.E. classes. A white space is provided on all Dance/P.E. items to label the student’s name. To prevent confusion and loss of purchased items, all required uniform pieces should be clearly labeled before wearing to school.
All 1st -5th grade students must wear:
Tops: TeSA Dance/P.E. Shirt or Solid Black Leotard (strongly recommended)
Bottoms: TeSA Dance/P.E. Shorts, Leggings, or Sweatpants or Pink or Black tights (if wearing a leotard), sheer black dance skirt (if wearing a leotard)
Footwear: Ballet Shoes ( pink ballet shoes for girls, black ballet shoes for boys).

PARTICIPATION:
This class is a MOVEMENT class.
Student participation is necessary to thrive in dance.
Participation includes: attentive listening to instructions, active stretching, engaging physically in dance steps or choreography, and the willingness to attempt dance steps.
If your child is well enough to come to school, but too sick to be active for the day, please provide a signed note or email to Mrs. Seabrooke. If a dancer is injured, a note from a doctor will be accepted as a waiver. All other reasons of lack of participation will result in a deduction of points determined by the instructor and in line with the Fine Arts grading rubric.
