The graphic reflects a recent survey of Texas Band Directors and what instrument brands are recommended. While Sweeny ISD has their own specific name brands that are recommended, we will also allow students to play on instruments that are on the list to the left. If you find an instrument from somewhere other than our approved vendors listed below and it is not on the list pictured, we cannot guarantee that the quality of the instrument will provide your student a positive experience in band.
Recommended Instrument Companies
The Sweeny Band Staff HIGHLY recommends that you use one of our approved vendors listed below to purchase/rent your student's instrument and purchase supplies. These vendors are the same businesses that we trust our own instruments to and can vouch for the quality of product that you will receive. We cannot make that same guarantee for any vendor not listed here. If you have questions about your purchases, please email Mr. Cantu at jcantu@sweenyisd.org.
Collins Music Center is a local company whose closest store is in Lake Jackson. If you prefer to buy face-to-face, this is the place to go!
Music & Arts is a national retailer that offers online shopping for your convenience.
Steve Weiss Percussion offers percussionists top of the line products and allows for online shopping.
School-Owned Instruments
If your student has been assigned to play the flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, or percussion, and you feel unable to rent or purchase an instrument of your own at this point, we will send out a Google Form at the start of the 2024-2025 school year for you to fill out.
There is no guarantee that the school will be able to provide these instruments as there is a limited amount of each instrument available, however, the band staff will do their best to supply everything that is needed.
REMINDER - French horn, baritone, and tuba are always school-owned instruments and therefore will not need to fill out this form.
