After 15 years in television Laura Dickson joined the teaching team and started a Women in Media Group at the beginning of 2021. She asked our female BA and HND TV students, what they needed to support and advise them on how to get into the industry and what challenges they could face.
The group which grew from there has hosted speakers from all sides of the industry. Freelance camera, sound and editing personnel shared their experiences in technical roles. A particular highlight was presenter Lorraine Kelly who joined the students on Zoom for a Q&A.
Representatives from companies such as IWC, Lion TV and Arteus have taken part. Heart FM Presenter Jennifer Reoch joined the students to share her journey of how she went from Miss Scotland with a Law Degree to a Television and Radio Presenter.
Next term the group plans to expand to all years and other areas within Media, to give female students the opportunity to be creative, make content and be part of a community. To find out more, or if you want to become involved, email Laura at Laura.Dickson@cityofglasgowcollege.ac.uk.
