Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year! This site is designed to build a strong school-home connection and a place for you to find everything you'll need to know about our class as we navigate sixth grade. Here's to a wonderful year of learning ahead!
Our class will be using GATE strategies throughout the school year and differentiate by adding novelty, rigor and depth to our classwork and discussions. While some of these strategies were designed to enrich the learning of the gifted student, all students benefit from their use. Our classroom will incorporate the following:
The Prompts of Depth and Complexity were developed to enrich students' learning. They are tools to help thinkers to observe, analyze and organize the information that they are learning. The prompts are used as tools to go beyond surface level understanding of a concept and enhance their ability to think critically.
Scholarly Habits to encourage students to become lifelong learners, we examine characteristics of scholarliness.
Universal Concepts/Generalizations help students make meaning out of what might initially seem like disconnected information. They assist in understanding the big ideas that connect and make sense of all learning. In sixth grade, we explore the concepts of change, power and systems.
Think Like a Disciplinarian is a method for teaching students to approach concepts from an expert’s point of view. This could mean thinking like a historian, biologist, author, or economist. TLAD is part of the Depth and Complexity framework.
