What is mental health and what does it mean to you? Mental health can be described as someone's overall mental wellness. We're striving for the energy to complete tasks or obligations, a feeling of being content, motivation to be active, and more. Many factors play into mental wellness, we should take a holistic approach to this. The State of Minnesota established "8 dimensions of Wellness", Emotional, Intellectual, Spiritual, Environmental, Financial, Occupational, Social, and Physical. When those 8 dimensions are without stress we should have optimal wellness. So what happens if we experience some struggle or uncertainty in one of those domains? Does it mean you will be guaranteed to experience a decline in your mental health? Not always but it could. Tim Denney once said "It's OK not to be OK, as long as you're willing to do something about it. Hardships in life are guaranteed, but there is help out there for everyone.
