The Academic team will work hard to represent our unit in competition by studying before, during, and after school. Academics are very important because school is after all, about learning, and there is no greater power than the power of the mind. The 2025-26 Academic Team is headed by Cadet LTJG Jayden Williams. The JROTC Leadership & Academic Bowl (JLAB) is a nationally recognized academic competition created exclusively for JROTC students. it consist of ACT and ASVAB like questions. There will also be a section on current and recent events.

The Brain Brawl Competition is an academic jeopardy style competition where cadets are quizzed on naval science, history, current events, general knowledge as well as other things. The judge will read aloud a question and cadets who believe they have the right answer must "buzz in" using their red buzzers. Once called upon by the judge, they will answer without consulting their group and if correct gain both points and a chance to correctly answer the bonus question. If the question is answered incorrectly they will lose points and the cadet who buzzed in after will have a chance to correctly answer the question.

(1) The academic exam will consist of 100 multiple choice questions with 60 minutes allowed for competition.
(2) The academic exam will not come from the test bank. All test questions will come directly from the latest editions of the Cadet Field Manual/NS-I (30 questions), NS-II (30 questions), NS-III (30 questions), and current events (past 60 days before exam-10 questions). The questions will be in typical multiple-choice format and easily understood by all cadets.

This information is not just for academic competitions. Many pieces of the information we study for academics is also makes up the majority of information that you will be quizzed on during class time and personal inspection. Due to this information be public for the entire battalion, you are subject to have pop quizzes at any point in time.
