The Primary Pod is a multiage classroom of kindergarten and first grade students. Timbree Brown and Deyonne Jackson lead the way for children to develop a love of learning in a safe environment built for student success through hands-on learning and play!
There are 36-40 students in the primary classroom and the students move about the day in various groups depending on subject or activity. Some subjects such as math and writing are split by grade level. In reading, students are grouped by areas in which they need to grow. During inquiry time (science, social students, and health) students are learning together as a multiage group. Because students spend 2 years in a pod, science, health, and social students content is on a 2-year rotation cycle.
Students begin inquiry and project-based learning in the primary classroom! Group projects introduce research skills and focus on learning to speak in front of an audience. The primary teachers believe that students learn best when they construct their own learning and they work hard to create well-rounded learners by teaching to the whole child.
It is a fun, energetic place to be!
