PORTFOLIO PREPARATION AND PRESENTATION SUGGESTIONS

The intent of the Portfolio Presentation is to assess the quality of the presentation and reflection rather than all the specific pieces of evidence. Selecting presentation evidence is an opportunity for self-assessment and for reflection on the meaning of your choices, while the presentation itself is a celebration of your accomplishments. With this in mind, use the following guidelines to prepare your presentation.

Planning and Preparation

1) Choose a presentation format that you are comfortable with and that works well with the style of your presentation.

2) Your presentation is not based on your whole portfolio, but instead, on your best evidence.

3) How much evidence you choose to present is up to you, but it should be enough to meet all the evaluation criteria on the Portfolio Presentation Evaluation Form.

4) Select evidence that you are most proud of over the course of your four years at NAHS.

5) Use the Portfolio Presentation Evaluation Form as a template for choosing and organizing your evidence.

6) Provide visual evidence to enhance and support what you are saying.

7) Your presentation should showcase who you are, what you have done and where you are going. The evidence you choose should be based on this.

8) To do this properly, you need to focus on high quality items of personal relevance, explain your focus area(s) and highlight your transition plan.

9) This means selecting evidence and explaining how it reflects and demonstrates your skills, strengths, interests, achievements, passions, accomplishments, talents, experiences, and hobbies, what your future plans are and how you will reach them.

10) Organize your presentation so that you begin with a strong opening piece of evidence and finish with your best piece of evidence.

11) Practice your presentation in front of others and give consideration to any questions and feedback.

12) Make sure that you can clearly explain the significance of each piece of evidence and provide more detail if requested.

13) Make sure you have reviewed your presentation and anticipated possible questions.

14) Make sure that your portfolio has a professional look and that you have carefully considered your appearance for the presentation.

15) Try to make your own presentation distinct from other presentations by using creative openings, unusual formats etc. This is your time to show who you are and shine!

Presenting

1) Begin the presentation with an introduction and summarize what you plan on doing (see Portfolio Presentation Evaluation Form). Invite questions, comments and feedback.

2) Take your time and try to enjoy this celebration of your accomplishments.

3) Listen carefully to any questions and take advantage of such an opportunity to expand upon the significance of the evidence.

4) Look for opportunities to highlight your strengths, achievements, future plans, etc.

5) Be upbeat, positive and make sure you show pride in what you are presenting.

6) Be conscious of the 10-15 minute presentation time limit.
