Our Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) program provides students who have untapped potential with the additional skill sets that they need to get into college and excel in a higher-education environment.
Students must apply to the program. You must complete an application. The application process includes a teacher nomination (completed through a Google form), and a brief interview at a later date.
Once accepted, students participate in the following course components:
● Study skills, such as note-taking
● Learning to study in groups
● Academic writing
● Tutorials run by trained college students
● Preparation for meeting college entrance requirements and college visits
● Field trips and guest speakers
Socratic Seminars
Through a process of listening, making meaning, and finding common ground students work toward shared understanding.
