People have been drawing since time began — just think of the ancient petroglyphs. I’ve dabbled in drawing on and off throughout my life and have always enjoyed the process of putting pencil to paper — from the sound it makes as it moves across the page to how it transforms a blank sheet into something words can’t always capture. It’s a very Zen activity for me, where I can simply focus on the act of creating.
I have to give credit to one of my oldest friends for introducing me to expressing creativity on paper. Back in our teenage years, she and I ran a small summer art class in our neighborhood for the local kids. She taught the lessons, and I helped with logistics and getting everyone there. Funny enough, I think I ended up being the one who learned the most from that experience! That’s really how I first began to tap into my creative side.
As life happens, creativity often comes in spurts. The crossroads I’m at now — having recently been laid off — has given me the opportunity to pause, reset, and reconnect with that creative spark again. Through the encouragement of friends and family, I launched MyLittleFe to see where this new journey might lead. Why? Well, why not? Life is about taking the plunge and seeing if you can swim. So, I’m choosing to live boldly!
Here’s the launch video I made on Instagram to mark this leap — my MyLittleFe Journey.
With that said, I’ve realized I need to brush up on my skills. The Draw Week class I took recently has been wonderful — Kirsty Partridge takes you through each step with so much clarity and encouragement. One day, I’d love to sign up for one of her advanced classes. There’s a special joy in being able to focus solely on the drawing in front of you.
I enjoyed all the sessions, but the Teddy Bear piece was my favorite — because as most of my friends and family know, a fluffy bear is my “spirit stuffed animal” (if that’s even a thing!). The bird drawing, on the other hand, was the most challenging. It took two days to complete with plenty of color mixing and layering — techniques I hadn’t practiced ever.
I hope you enjoy reading this! If you’d like to follow my journey and get future updates, I’d love to stay connected. You can subscribe here — I’ll be sending out periodic newsletters (still a work in progress!) and other creative updates.
