Beanstack is our new reading program that has replaced Accelerated Reader (AR). Essentially, it is a reading log for students to keep track of how many minutes they spend reading. Beanstack makes it easy to track everything you read, whether it’s a book, e-book, or audiobook. See everything you’ve read, share reading with friends, and keep your daily reading streak alive. Get motivated to meet your reading goals with new reading challenges and virtual badges. Right now, this platform is only available for students in 2nd - 5th grade.
Beanstack uses competition, recognition, and proven gamification principles to motivate students to read and develop a life-long love of reading. Whether your student chooses fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, or articles online, any and all reading counts in Beanstack! By tracking their daily reading, your student will begin to build healthy reading habits and become a more confident reader.
When students log their reading via Beanstack’s web or mobile app, they:
● Earn digital badges as they reach milestones
● Compete on leaderboards and build streaks for reading every day
● Track everything they read on their virtual bookshelf
Using Beanstack is quick and easy:
● At school: Your student can access Beanstack directly through their device on the library homepage, SSO account, or by clicking here.
● At home: Your student can download the Beanstack mobile app on the iOS App Store or Google Play Store
To log in, students will use their email accounts. The email formula is first.lastname@myhisd.net. Their email is their regular password that they use here at school (first 4 letters of last name in caps, last 4 of social, exclamation mark. Ex: HATF1234!)
There are many opportunities to earn prizes in Beanstack. Right now, students are working on a February Challenge and there are 5 prize options for this challenge. For each badge they earn in the challenge, they are rewarded tickets. The tickets can then be entered into a drawing for the prize of their choice. At the end of the challenge, we will draw winners for each prize. Some prizes will have several winners, while other prizes might just have one grand prize winner. This is just one example of a way students are rewarded. With other challenges, there may be rewards for completing a specific badge, or just for completing the challenge.
