Emergency Coverage Plan
Emergency Coverage Guidance
Areas of Focus:
It is imperative that ALL teachers check their email EVERY morning as soon as is physically possible. Attention and response to communications from Mrs. O/Mac will be crucial.
Understanding that you may be employed for emergency coverage without notice prior to the morning of.
Flexibility and openness
Operational Structure:
In the event of an unplanned absence, teacher will IMMEDIATELY enter the absence into Frontline before any further action. This will give us the best chances to locate a sub and avoid coverage.
Teacher notifies Mrs. O & Mac, as well as their department head and supervising AP of the absence.
Mrs. O/Mac will devise a coverage plan if a sub does not pick up the absence
Mrs. O/Mac will send out the coverage plan for the absent teachers by 8:00AM or earlier (or ASAP in the event of a midday emergency) to all classroom teachers, department heads, and covering teachers. This communication will be marked “Important.”
Dpt. heads will secondarily ensure that teachers in their department know that they are covering a class that day.
Additional Notes:
All coverage assignments will be dictated by Mrs. O/Mac
There should be no school-wide communication concerning coverage from anyone other than Mrs. O/Mac
In the event that you need coverage for a pre-planned obligation for a portion of a period (coaches, bus driving, field trip, etc.) you are encouraged to find a friend to help cover. However; this must be communicated to Mrs. O/Mac the day prior.
Emergency coverage is reserved for emergencies. If you have signed up for an optional training or enrichment experience it is your responsibility to find a sub (Mrs. O has a list of preferred subs….make some calls). Emergency coverage will not be used cover those situations.
If a teacher wants to know where we are in the rotation, ask Mr. Mac. He’ll be happy to let them know where in the rotational cycle we are.
Teachers who are on the ‘paid coverage’ list need to know that they will be put into coverage without prior notice. Teachers desiring to be paid for coverage cannot pick and choose coverage spots or days.
