Access Red Rover to submit an absence. Once submitted, a substitute can be assigned and the absence can be approved.
Non-Negotiable Expectations in the Event of an Absence
· Teachers must have current rosters printed for each block
· Explicit and clear directions/protocols for subs/coverers
· Explicit and clear directions for subs/coverers to deliver work to students.
· Ample work for students
· It is unacceptable to be absent from your class and have nothing in place for your students or for those covering your class or picking up your vacancy. Subs who take a job with us and have nothing prepared for them are unlikely to return to us….and we can’t afford that.
Emergency Coverage System:
For S1 2024-2025 we’ll continue with an emergency coverage plan that is rotational. Two teachers will be assigned to cover each block, one for the first half, one for the second half of each block. Our rotation will progress alphabetically through each period of planners. If you ever want to know where we are in the rotation (so you have a bit of a heads up as to when to expect coverage), don’t hesitate to reach out to Mac.
I understand that some emergency absences are unavoidable; however, teachers who have an unfilled vacancy need to understand that their absence puts added stress on their coworkers (and students). Utilizing this contingency plan should NOT be taken lightly, or employed flippantly.
Operational Overview:
· In the event of an unplanned absence, teacher will IMMEDIATELY enter the absence into Frontline before any further action. This will give us the best chances to locate a sub and avoid coverage.
· Teacher notifies Ms. Lee (Front Office), Ms. Harris, & supervising AP of the absence.
· Ms. Lee (Front Office) will create a coverage plan if a sub does not pick up the absence
· Ms. Lee (Front Office) will send out the coverage plan for the absent teachers by 8:15AM (or ASAP in the event of a midday emergency) to all covering teachers, supervising Aps, Ms. Harris, & department heads. This communication will be marked “Important.”
· Dpt. heads will secondarily ensure that teachers in their department know that they are covering a class that day.
Additional Notes:
· All coverage assignments will be dictated by Ms. Lee
· There should be no school-wide communication concerning coverage from anyone other than Ms. Lee (Front Office)
· In the event that you need coverage for a pre-planned obligation for a portion of a period (coaches, bus driving, field trip, etc.) you are obligated to procure your own coverage. This is something that should be in place well before an event/field trip. All plans should be communicated to supervising AP & Ms. Lee prior to the event.
· Emergency coverage is reserved for emergencies. If you have signed up for an optional training or enrichment experience it is your responsibility to find a sub. Emergency coverage will not be used cover those situations.
· It is imperative that ALL teachers check their email EVERY morning as soon as is physically possible. Attention and response to communications from Mrs. O/Mac will be crucial.
· Understanding that you may be employed for emergency coverage without notice prior to the morning of.
