Getting it started 

I am currently typing out an email to East Coachella Valley Pride. This is a non-profit organization here in the valley that inspired this project for me. They do a lot of outreach work with the youth in the area so I am emailing them for guidance on how to get this started. I am hoping to gain some insight on what it is like to run these kinds of workshops and some good tips on successfully pulling them off. I am nervous to hear back but this has been a good learning experience so far in writing the email! Now we wait to see what we get back and how I can move forward from there. 

Miguel, a Senior Manager for Youth Programming, contacted me back! It was exciting to see that email because I felt hope for actually being able to pull this off.  He is willing to chat and answer any questions I have ! So far I have gathered questions regarding how they were able to successfully create a positive impact in the community through their events like their youth hangouts and workshops! I am preparing a script to describe my project mission the best I can then work from there. I have an interview type of chat this Friday (2/27) so I will prepare for the rest of the week and work through this next step in the right direction ! Woohoo!

The interview went great! I talked with Miguel and got the opportunity to confidently yet nervously explain my project and mission. He gave me lots of background information on ECV Prides similar mission. A lot of the information he provided was shocking to me. One of the biggest pieces of information that surprised me was the fact that almost all their funding comes from the community and not the city !  He informed me on the resources available through the center and even invited me to be on their planning committee! It was a great experience and a new connection formed with an amazing recourse here in the valley for both the club and myself ! The resources and need for my project here in Indio are strong and I am so much closer to achieving my goal !!!
