What to Expect in the Next 7 Weeks?

The first seven weeks of each school year at Discovery are focused on establishing routines and building classroom relationships for our students, as well as providing parent education and fostering community building for our families. Classroom shifts for families will start the week of October 7th.

Returning Families

Please sign up for at least two morning drop-off shifts OR one yard duty shift EVERY WEEK during the interim weeks.  Available yard duty shifts include morning recess and lunch recess.  Click here to sign up for your shift as a returning family.

Special Note: Please come 5 minutes early and drop by the office to pick up your volunteer lanyard before your first shift.

If you wish to attend a refresher training in Positive Discipline, you are welcome to sign up using the link in the New Families section below.  Please note, this is in addition to your morning drop-off / yard duty shift duties as a returning family.

New Families

Welcome! During this time, you will dedicate this time to completing your Positive Discipline (PD) Training. Positive Discipline training provides tools and techniques to support students at Discovery, covering what positive discipline is (and is not) and how to apply it both in and out of the classroom. We ask all family members who will be active participants at school to attend.   Click here to sign up for for your Positive Discipline in the Classroom training.

All Families

Your class coordinator will contact you to gather your availability for classroom shifts and to identify a role that aligns with your skills and interests, either in the classroom or school-wide. Then we warmly invite you and any family member (grandparents, nannies, etc.) who plans to volunteer on behalf of your family to join us on campus on Thursday, September 26th for Parent Academy 101.

While this may seem like a lot, our priority is always our students. It is crucial that all teachers, staff, and families use a shared language and a like-minded approach when engaging with students, addressing conflict resolution, bullying awareness, neurodiversity, yard duty, and more.

THANK YOU!  We appreciate your time and your dedication to your child’s education and to Discovery!
