I grew up on the West Coast of Canada, in Vancouver, British Columbia, where my family still live.
I attended the University of British Columbia, earning my Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, with a minor in English in 2008. Later, I moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia (on the East Coast of Canada) to earn my Bachelor of Education, focussed in Secondary Science and English Language Arts, from Acadia University in 2012.
While living in Halifax, I met my husband (an American), and after graduation I made plans to move here to Maryland to be with him. We now have a 3 year old son, Mason, and a 1 year old daughter, Rory, who bring us more joy than we could have imagined, but keep us on our toes just about 24/7.
I have been teaching in Anne Arundel County since 2014. I have previously worked as an 8th Grade Science teacher and eCoach at Southern Middle School, before transferring to CSP 2 years ago.
I love teaching science because I think that it is natural for people to be curious about "how stuff works" and I enjoy fostering that curiosity. I frequently think about all of the great scientific discoveries yet to be made, and the possibility that a student I currently teach may one day go on to discover one of them. I also believe that education gives us power; perhaps the most important thing that a student can learn is to think and read critically (especially when it comes to scientific information), so that they can make informed decisions that could greatly impact their lives and the lives of others.
I cannot wait to work with my students, this year, to find unique and innovative ways to learn during these unprecedented times.
