What are we currently working on?

April and May

April 19 and 26 & May 3 and 10:  The Events Committee has organized Lunch Clubs.  Tables will be set up on the concourse during all lunch for card games, puzzle making, crochet and coloring.  A giant Jenga game will also be set up.  Students are reminded to follow the posted rules.

May 22nd: The SGA is sponsoring a Culture Fair.  Some Electives will participate by setting up display tables about different cultures around the globe while others will come out to visit the tables.  This event will take place on the concourse during all lunches May 22nd.  We hope to see everyone there.

What has the SGA done so far this school year?

The Student Government Association of CPMS was formed in the Summer of 2023.  Eight students from the 6th, 7th and 8th grades were chosen to represent their fellow classmates.  Their first task was to write a Constitution.  It took a few months but the Constitution of the College Preparatory Middle School SGA was written and approved by a 2/3rds majority of the student body on October 30th, 2023.

Our first month to plan activities for CPMS was October.  With the help of the Directors and our School Counselor, we collaborated on Red Ribbon week.  The week was filled with our traditional pledge to remain drug free and annual visit by Border Patrol and K9 crew.  SGA added a "Wear Red" day to the week’s activities and ended the week with our first Class Color Spirit Challenge.  The Class of 2025 (7th grade) won the first challenge of the year and held onto the spirit trophy for a month!  We ended the month selling Scare-Grams and achieved our goal of buying a camera.

November was an eventful month at College Prep and for the SGA. In the beginning of the month, we started our Toys for Tots community service drive which provides toys for children in need. CPMS donated close to 300 toys and the Class of 2026 (6th grade) won the spirit trophy for the month!

We also incorporated messages of Thankfulness in our Tigers Dens, as it was the theme of November, by participating in activities created by the SGA, along with a daily thankfulness quote. The SGA began to finalize committees in the two meetings during the month and planned for another exciting month ahead.

December was filled with more firsts for the SGA.  We added 5th grade representatives to our organization and included more members of the student body to our committees:)  We also wrapped up the Toys for Tots drive and had our first Winter Holiday Celebrations Week.  The last week before winter break, students learned about various winter holidays and decorated holiday trees. Tree decoration became our class spirit competition for the month of December.  It was great to see the grades coming together to win the spirit trophy.  The week was also filled with Secret Santa notes, Festive Winter Hat day, and our annual Ugly Sweater Day.  The PTSA also handed out their annual holiday sweet treat during lunch. The SGA had two meetings in December and the committees had their first meetings.  It was a wonderful month to wrap up the calendar year.

January was a great month to start off the new year, with the focus being on self growth, which was incorporated in a variety of ways.  We started by reflecting on ourselves, and planning for the future in our Tigers Dens, honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  We also tracked our fitness goals in P.E and brainstormed ways to reach new ones. During the two meetings the SGA had in the month, we brainstormed ways to bring CPMS together.  January was also a month of new traditions introducing a new pick-up system using SchoolPass. Lastly, Steele Canyon High School gave our eighth grade tigers a taste of what is to come, performing an amazing Pep Rally! In conclusion, January was a month to reflect on the past and prepare for the future as we close out the first half of the school year:)

Kindness was our main focus for February and it was incorporated into the activities performed during Tigers Den, as well as Lunch. We started off the month by writing down how we want to show our kindness during February and decorated the hallways with these affirmations. College Prep also participated in national “No One Eats Alone Day”, in which students who were open to making new friends were encouraged to wear a red shirt as a sign to other students that they wanted to meet new people. This event was a major success with lots of new friendships being formed across all grades! Lastly, the SGA sold lemonade during lunches which was also very successful. In conclusion, February was a great month with many new traditions being started.

Even though the month March was shortened due to Spring Break, College Prep and the SGA were still very busy. Sham grams were sold during lunches throughout the month and were a huge success, raising $700 for the SGA! All of the money raised by the SGA is used to help make College Prep an even better place. This involves planning fun new events like the brand new Spike-ball tournament, organized by our wonderful PE teachers and the sports committee. This event was extremely successful and will most likely become a staple in the College Prep calendar in the future. In the two meetings during March, the SGA planned for the fourth quarter of the school year, looking to leave the 23-24 school year on a positive note.
