Why Orchestra?
The benefits of playing a string instrument can last a lifetime! Students not only learn how to work with others, build their cognitive skills, and learn a lot of physical coordination, but they are also given so many unique opportunities. They learn how to perform in front of an audience, achieve goals as a team, travel with their orchestra, and learn discipline and dedication to their craft.
They can earn scholarships for college, play their instruments in the community, and utilize these skills in every aspect of their lives. Orchestra allows them to have a community environment throughout middle school, high school, and beyond. They grow in character, confidence, and have experiences they will remember for the rest of their lives.
General Information
No prior musical experience is necessary.
Orchestra instruments include violin, viola, cello, and double bass.
Orchestra is taught every day as a part of the regular school day and is considered an academic elective.
We have an Orchestra Night early in the spring semester for students to test out the four instruments and see which one is their favorite.
It is recommended that students first acquire an instrument through renting, not purchasing, as students will grow and their instrument will need to increase in size as well.
We highly recommend renting from Lisle Violin Shop, as they are an all-inclusive, rent-to-own program with high quality instruments. Students should not obtain an instrument from outside sources such as Amazon or eBay, as the instrument quality will be very poor and difficult to use.
Private lessons are available and highly encouraged for orchestra students.
