I'm Marissa Garbiero and I will be your child's ELA teacher. This is my 4th year teaching in 6th, and my 22nd year here at Nixon Academy. You may have also seen me outside running the Jog-A-Thon every year.
I grew up in Cerritos and went to private school through high school. I got my Bachelors Degree in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Humanities through Literature, as well as my Multiple Subject Credential through Cal State, Long Beach. GO BEACH! I received my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Concordia University.
My family is very important to me. I am very close to my parents, and to my brother and his family, especially my two nieces, Lexi and Mel. This year both girls will be juniors. Mel at Millikan HS and Lexi at Cal Poly SLO. I love spending time with my family, reading, and traveling. I am also currently in the throws of major construction on my house. Oh the dust...
I look forward to getting to know all of our 6th graders this year and making it a fantastic last year at Nixon!
Ringo (Reading Bingo) is a totally optional series of projects that students may complete for extra points!
The idea is, after they finish an AR book, to select one of the fun book report options. Each project consists of 2 parts:
1) a half page book report
2) a creative project based on the book
You can click on any square for more information and scoring rubrics for each project.
These posters show the organization and helpful reminders about all of our writing types. Students receive hard copies to put in their black Writing Folders for their reference. They will receive them as we begin each different writing type.
