i was incredibly honoured to be awarded a gallery space to curate and showcase my best work from the past four years of my undergrad. i was also very fortunate to have the support of my family, friends, and partner throughout the process of putting this show on.
We are all the sum of a thousand lives lived before our conception.
Generations upon generations that have lived and died before me dictate my conscious and unconscious state of being in this world. I may not know all of their names or their stories but their innately human idiosyncrasies linger within me.
The way my hair never quite parts in the middle no matter how hard I try, the way my fingers are long and lean, and how I always tell the same stories twice.
How I am sensitive, how I am kind, how I take a compliment, and how I see the world around me.
I may have a predisposition to reading and writing because generations ago my Proops lineage owned one of the first Jewish printing presses. My great-Bubby, Ann Bernstein, may have liked the colour emerald green because her own mother liked forest green.
I look for those who live within me, everywhere, and seek to use them as inspiration for my own creative endeavours. I have the duty as an artist to carry those who make up my being with me as I grow; thus making life worth living, stories worth telling, and art worth making.
