Message from the Clinic to 6th Grade Families
Each year the state of Ohio requires all incoming 7th graders to receive the Tdap and Meningococcal (A,C,W,Y) immunizations on or before the first day of school (ORC 3313.67 and 3313.671).
As we enter the second half of this school year, we would encourage the parents and guardians of current 6th graders to contact their primary healthcare provider to make arrangements for this now instead of waiting until the summer. Providers get booked up and sometimes vaccines are hard to get when everyone is trying to get it before the start of school.
Our School Based Health Center, the Wolves' Wellness Center, is available for your child to receive these immunizations, as is The Clermont County Public Health Department.
If you need information about making an appointment with either of these options or if you have any questions, please contact the middle school clinic.

Parents whose student’s last name starts with the letters C-Z will enter from Amelia Olive Branch and exit onto Amelia Olive Branch. C-Z Map Amelia Olive Branch Enter/Exit
We encourage parents to text your child at the end of the dance to help them find you. This will keep the dismissal process flowing smoothly and avoid any back up onto the main roads.

SOS: Signs Of Suicide Prevention Program
Monday, February 3rd & Tuesday, February 4th
West Clermont Middle School is partnering with Child Focus, Inc. to bring mental health education to our students.
The purpose of the program is to try to find the best way to help the students in this school who may be experiencing symptoms of depression or even having suicidal thoughts. Often, young people don’t like to ask for help because they are embarrassed or don’t know who to ask. This prevention program is designed to make it easier for young people to find help for any emotional or behavioral health concerns that trouble them. Identifying these issues early will allow us to provide the appropriate support in the most efficient and beneficial manner possible.
This program has been used by thousands of schools over the last decade. It’s proven to be successful at increasing help seeking behaviors by students concerned about themselves or a friend and is the only school-based suicide prevention program to show a reduction in suicide attempts in a randomized, controlled study. Our 7th grade students will be participating in this program on Monday, February 3rd for Team 1, 2, & 3 and Tuesday, February 4th for Team 4, 5, & 6 of this school year.
Our goals in participating in this program are straight forward:
● To help students learn depression is treatable, so they are encouraged to seek help
● To help students learn how to identify depression and potential suicide risk in themselves or a friend.
● To help students learn how to ACT (Acknowledge, Care and Tell a trusted adult) if concerned about themselves or a friend.
● To help students learn who they can turn to at school for help, if they need it.
After our presentation all students will complete an exit slip asking if they would like to speak with anyone concerning the information they learned during our presentation. If students express interest in talking to someone, they will have the opportunity to speak with school counseling and/or child focus staff. If, in the judgment of the Child Focus, Inc. and/or Crisis Response Team staff, your child is in immediate risk of injuring himself/herself or others, we will inform you immediately. If you are not available, we will take the appropriate measures to protect your child and inform you as soon as possible.
We encourage you to visit www.sossignsofsuicide.org/parent for information on warning signs for youth suicide and some of the key messages students will learn.

Clinic in Need of Donations
If you are cleaning out your closets over Winter Break, the clinic would greatly appreciate any pants donations.
You can either send them in with your child or you can bring them to either office when students return on January 6th.

District Updates
Over the last several months and years, West Clermont School School District has been diligently engaging with the community through town halls, surveys, focus groups, building tours and more in order to get a better understanding of what YOU want our district to look like moving forward.
The Community Advisory Team (CAT) was formed as another layer of this engagement effort, and they were tasked with studying district facilities. Through our robust engagement with the community, it became clear that our school facilities lie at the heart of so many challenges facing our school district. With the information gathered from the community, the CAT team provided a community-driven proposal for how the district should tackle our facility challenges. Since that proposal, we have analyzed the educational, operational and financial implications and will bring an additional option for the Board to consider on October 28th.
As always, our Board and district team want to get as much feedback from you as possible. That's why today we are launching another facilities survey based on the combined community-driven proposals and analysis. You can take that survey HERE.

Chromebook Notifications
Starting on 10/21 any time a student checks out a loaner chromebook, an email will be automatically sent to the parent or guardian listed first in PowerSchool. It will list whether or not they checked one out because they forgot their chromebook at home OR if they are checking it in for repair.
We have a very limited supply of loaner chromebooks so we are asking for some help to make sure their chromebook comes charged every day and that they are taking good care of the device. This email is just to increase awareness and hope you find it helpful. The email will not be able to list what type of repair is needed or the cost -- that will continue to be communicated in the same manner.

Safety Update
The safety of our students and staff is one of our primary concerns and any threats of violence, even if deemed not credible, are taken very seriously. After several recent school tragedies across the United States, we felt it was important to remind you about our safety initiatives.
Please know that all threats against our students and staff are taken seriously and thoroughly investigated through our partnership with local law enforcement.
Threats against schools are treated very seriously, and students who are determined to have made such threats face consequences through our school’s Code of Conduct, as well as potential legal, financial, and criminal consequences.
This is an opportune time to discuss this situation with your children and emphasize that there are severe consequences of such actions, even if the threat is made in jest. Please remind your children about the importance of reporting any suspicious or potentially threatening activity to an adult as soon as possible. The Ohio School Safety Center (OSSC) partnered with the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association and the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police to create awareness to this issue through a video PSA called Joining Together for School Safety please watch it with you child.
The OSSC provides an anonymous reporting system, the Safer Ohio School Tip Line (844-723-3764) to report concerns for safety. Crisis response professionals are available 24/7 to assist with getting concerns to local law enforcement and schools for investigation. You can call, text, use the Safer Ohio smartphone app or even submit via the webform to report concerns.
District Updates
Finance Update
The West Clermont School District has released two more videos in our Understanding School Finances video series. In part 5 we provide more in depth information on how our district spends money each school year. The core of our business as a school district is in the classroom experience, and that's where the vast majority of our funds are allocated. Dan Romano breaks down in detail how that money is allocated to students, classrooms, and excellent staff. In part 6 we walk through the district's commitment to stretching every dollar we spend. We are always working to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars and that means always looking for ways to spend money more efficiently while also ensuring our kids have the educational experience they need and deserve.
We've also been re-releasing our Facilities Videos. This week we looked at Merwin Elementary and Summerside Elementary. Merwin Elementary was built in 1966 while Summerside is one of our newer buildings, having been constructed in 2019.

District Updates
Finance Update
Over the last few weeks, we have been rolling out our Understanding School Finance series. In the first videos, we provided a broad overview of how the West Clermont School District is funded. It's important to understand the sources of revenue that provide resources to our district every day and where your tax dollars go. This week we released Part 3 and Part 4 of our video series.
Part 3 walks through the intricacies of the State of Ohio's involvement in school funding. The State of Ohio provides funding to every public school in Ohio, but there is a specific process to determine how much each district receives. In the last fiscal year, the State of Ohio accounted for 31.4% of West Clermont's General Operating Fund. You can watch part 3 HERE.
Part 4 provides a broad overview of what West Clermont School District's budget looks like, and how that breaks down to per pupil spending. West Clermont spends around $12,000 per pupil per school year. Our treasurer, Dan Romano, spends time in the video breaking down that per pupil spending so you can see exactly where each dollar is allocated to help students along their educational journey. You can watch part 4 HERE.
As a note, additional detailed information about the topics discussed in this video are available on our finance website.
We also re-released two new facilities videos this week; Clough Pike Elementary and Holly Hill Elementary. Clough Pike Elementary School was constructed in 1968 and stands as one of the older buildings in our district. Watch the video below to learn more.
Holly Hill Elementary has been in operation since 1982, and has a capacity of 425 students. We encourage you to get to know Holly Hill by clicking below and watching out latest video!
Your Input Needed: School Facilities Survey Now Open!
Dear Parents and Community Members,
I hope this message finds you well. We are off to a great start of the school year so far! As we continue our journey toward enhancing our school district, I am reaching out to emphasize the importance of your participation in our newly launched School Facilities Survey. I urge you to take a few moments to complete the survey HERE.
Over the past several years, we have made it a priority to listen to your feedback and incorporate your insights into our decision-making processes. The establishment of the Community Advisory Team was a significant step in ensuring that our planning reflects the wants and needs of our community. This group has worked diligently to provide recommendations that will guide our future, and we continue to incorporate your voice into our future planning.
This latest survey is a critical opportunity for you to convey your thoughts regarding our school facilities, especially as we approach a pivotal time for our district. Key decisions are on the horizon, and it is vital that these decisions reflect what you envision for our schools. Your feedback will help us understand the challenges we face and prioritize improvements that matter most to you and your children.
Thank you for your continued support and engagement in this important process. Your participation truly makes a difference!
Warm regards,
Natasha Adams

District Updates
Over the last few years, our district has been engaging with the community on the issues impacting our district. With all we have learned, we are quickly approaching a pivot point in the history of our district. Our CAT Team, the Community Action Team, has submitted recommendations to the board of education that deal with how to achieve our portrait of a graduate. We believe that as these recommendations are being considered, we should continue to educate you on our school facilities and how school finance at West Clermont works. It's critical that you are armed with this information as we approach this critical junction for our school district.
That's why, over the next few weeks, we will be rolling out our "Focus on Finance" series, where our Treasurer, Dan Romano, will walk you through all aspects of our district's finances. This week we released the first two videos in the series and encourage you to watch. In our kickoff video Treasurer, Dan Romano, provides a broad overview of how West Clermont is funded. The second video continues the conversation into funding, specifically on the share that local residents and businesses contribute.
Additionally in tandem with each video, additional detailed information about the topics discussed will be available on our website at https://www.westcler.org/our-team/treasurer/school-finances. This will be a repository of an immense amount of financial information about the district.
In addition to the finance series, we are also re-releasing our Facilities video series, where we explore each of our school buildings. Let's start with Amelia Elementary which was constructed in 2010.
Want to learn more? Join us at one of our upcoming building tours (westcler.org/tours) or browse the artifacts from our recent 'Focus on Facilities' Town Hall (westcler.org/townhalls). You can also see the videos from all of the other West Clermont school buildings at westcler.org/facilities.

Important Updates Regarding Admission and Supervision at WCHS Varsity Home Football Games
West Clermont is making some adjustments regarding admittance to and supervision at home Varsity Football games at West Clermont High School.
Supervision:
Elementary (K-5) and Middle School (6-8) students MUST be supervised by an adult who is in attendance at the game.
If a student is stopped by a School Administrator or the Union Township Police Department for not meeting behavior expectations (see below), an adult must be onsite to address and resolve the issue.
This may include being asked to leave the game without refund. Should this occur, the supervising adult would be required to take all students they brought with them.
Elementary students (Grade 5 and under) must sit with an adult.
Middle School parents are encouraged to sit in the newly designated Junior PACK section of the stadium (see seating chart, below), within line of sight of the Middle schooler(s) they brought to the game.
Expectations Regarding Student Behavior:
The Student Code of Conduct remains in effect at all school events, including football games.
Students must have a seat and remain in that seat for the duration of the game, with the exception of trips to and from concessions and/or restrooms.
Students may NOT loiter or run around in the stadium area, the parking lot, or other areas of campus.
Students may NOT be in the shot put pit near the bell.
Anyone caught throwing any objects will be immediately ejected from the game and may be prohibited from attending games the remainder of this school year.
Student Seating:
The WCHS student section will stay in their current section furthest to the left when looking at the home stands.
The Junior PACK (Grades 6-8) will have space reserved for them in the section furthest to the right when looking at the home stands. Middle School parents are encouraged to sit in this section as well.
Elementary students (Grade 5 and under) must sit with an adult.
