I have used an AI to help me with my data analysis how should I acknowledge this?

Suppose an AI such as GTP-4 was used for data analysis or to generate hypotheses. In that case, you should describe in the main text or in your workings document the input provided, the model's output, and how this information was utilised in the context of your work. Such transparency in how AI tools are used in the research process is crucial for reproducibility and critical assessment by peers.

Personal Information/Data, Identifiable Information and Research data should never be inputted directly into an AI model.

I have used an AI to gain an understanding of a topic, how do I acknowledge this like I would a textbook or research paper?

If the AI’s product (for example, use of ChatGPT in conversation) is only available to you, it can be acknowledged as a personal communication and you can include a description of the AI-generated material in your in-text citation.

In APA7 style the citation order is:

I have used AI to help me with my structure or develop my assessment. How do I acknowledge its use?

It's important to disclose the use of AI in your assessment task. You can do this by appending a log and by showing your workings in a sperate document. The log should be placed after the reference list and contain relevant details about your use of AI in developing your assignment. Do this where an AI has been used to give a structured outline for your assessment, brainstorming or the generation of initial ideas and topics (Grammarly, 2023)

providing appropriate references.

If an AI was used to help with the editing or readability of a document, you could acknowledge this in the following way.

When acknowledging the use of AI in the editing of a document, the most important factors are transparency and accuracy. Here's how you might do it, tailored for different contexts:

In an Academic or Professional Setting: In your acknowledgements section or a footnote, you could write:

- "We acknowledge the assistance of OpenAI's GPT-4 for providing suggestions during the editing process of this document."

Or, if you want to be more specific about the role of GPT-4:

I acknowledge the use of Generative AI (WEBSITE) in the planning of my essay, to establish the structure of my work and generate ideas about aspects to focus on.
The advanced data analysis plugin for GTP-4 was used to write code which then was used in Python to analysis the raw data.

Workings / Appending information

The workings document should contain the following information documenting how you have used AI in developing your assessments. Your tutor may ask you to keep a version of your assessment that shows track changes for text-based assessments. Please check your submission briefs.
