What is a Social Worker?
Life as a Social Worker:
Social workers support individuals and families to improve their well-being and help address challenges in their personal lives. They provide guidance and resources to help people navigate personal, social, or economic hardships. Social workers work with their clients to understand their needs and identify their goals and challenges - they then create personalised plans to address these specific issues.
They provide and offer counselling and emotional support so clients can cope with their challenges (for example abuse or grief); they also help clients to access resources that will benefit them (e.g., healthcare or financial support).
Social workers also have the important role of providing immediate responses to urgent situations such as domestic violence or child protection - they identify risks and ensure the well being of their clients. Social workers don’t just work amongst themselves as they collaborate with lawyers, the police and healthcare providers to supply holistic support. Relationships and trust are formed and regular progress is tracked so interventions can be changed based on the client's situation.
