Professor Mary Lovegrove OBE

Mary Lovegrove is a diagnostic radiographer by profession. Her professional chair is in the education and development of the allied health workforce. In 2012 she was awarded an OBE for her services to allied health. She spent 18 years in the higher education sector. She is a Director for Allied Health Solutions and holds a number of visiting professorial posts. Until May 2019 she was a Non-Executive Director of an NHS Trust. She is currently a Trustee for the Burdett Trust and Chair of the Register Committee for the Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners.

Professor Stephen Wordsworth

Stephen is currently Professor of Health Care Education and Dean at University College Birmingham. Stephen has held a number of Higher Education leadership roles; including Deputy Dean in the Faculty of Health, Educational and Social Care at Anglia Ruskin University and Head of School for Allied and Public Health Professions at Birmingham City University. Stephen has also carried out a number of roles on behalf of the College of Operating Department Practitioners, during which time he authored a number of national policy and curriculum documents. Prior to this Stephen began his career as an Operating Department Practitioner before moving into teaching roles at the University of Huddersfield, and Sheffield Hallam UniversityAfter completing a Doctorate in Education Stephen has continued to pursue his research interests which centre on Higher Education policy, as well as student participation and choice Stephen has presented at national and international conferences on a broad range of topics, including UK perspectives on healthcare regulation and professionalism.

Mike Donnellon

Mike is Chair of the CODP Education and Standards Committee and is also a Senior Lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire. Mike began his ODP (ODA) career in 1983 at Blackpool Victoria Hospital where he was eventually appointed as Principle ODP. His particular interest is in the developments of supraglottic airway devices.As part of his College role, Mike co-ordinates the Clinical and University Educator (CUE) Forums which take place twice per year. He also represents the College at a number of national meetings including the ODP Degree Apprenticeship Trailblazer group and the Health and Care Professions Education Leads group.

Giles Farrington

Giles trained in the forces and then spent 8 years in the forces as an ODP with deployments to Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan. He has spent 15 years in the NHS as a Senior ODP at York, working mainly within an acute, trauma/orthopaedic and critical care setting and has been teaching as part of the MDT on various courses.His main interests are in resuscitation, critical care, the deteriorating patient and educationMember of the Academy of Medical Educators (AoME)

Joanna Finney

Joanna is a biomedical Science graduate and University of West London ODP alumni, qualified in 2014. She worked as MLA in Microbiology before HCA in theatres to Trainee ODP. Once qualified Joanna worked as an anaesthetic assistant and senior anaesthetic practitioner, mentor and part of the education team to the trainee ODPs. Joanna started an MSc in Advanced practice before transferring to MSc Advanced Clinical Practitioner course and Trainee ACP in ED undertaking the RCEM credentialing portfolio– due to qualify July 2019.

Sarah Anderson

Sarah is a law graduate and Sheffield Hallam University ODP alumni, qualified in 2003. She worked as an anaesthetic assistant and senior PACU practitioner, and then spent 18mths as a Clinical Educator before obtaining a Trainee ACP post at Hull in 2015. Sarah completed ACP training including an MSc in Advanced Practice in 2018, now working as a fully qualified ACP in Trauma and Orthopaedics.

Adele Nightingale

Adele has been a member of the School of Health Sciences at University of Central Lancashire since Feb 2017. She is an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) with years of experience working within the NHS as a Team Leader and Departmental Manager. As a lecturer, Adele has taught many elements of leadership to healthcare students at all levels. Adele’s area of interest focuses on emotional intelligence, mind-set and developing resilience as leaders. Her current doctoral study aims to explore ODP’s perceptions and experiences of leadership in healthcare.

Elaine Buckley

Elaine qualified as a physiotherapist in 1981 and progressed onto to become Orthopaedic General Manager, at Derbyshire Royal Infirmary. She moved into higher education in 1996 where she has worked for over 22 years in a number of roles including Assistant Dean, in the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing. Her current role is interim Assistant Dean Academic Development and works across the University leading academic and organisational development projects. She has been a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy since 2014. Elaine was a member of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) for four and a half years and was Chair for 3 years.

Efua Hagan

Efua is a qualified ODP working in practice development. She has a passion for the perioperative environment and also manages and is the the lead for the In-House Recovery Course which not only has practitioners that work in theatres but also in other areas including radiology. Efua is also the London Regional Lead for AfPP where not only does she represent the organisation she also organises 2 study days a year.

Belle Fletcher

Belle is a Schools and Colleges Engagement Coordinator from Sheffield Hallam University. Her role is focussed around raising awareness of health and social care courses within higher education, and the careers which these courses open up.

Louise Freeman-Parry

Due to illness Louise's session will now be delivered by Keith Miller who is a medical microbiologist at Sheffield Hallam University

Craig Griffths

I am an ODP who specialised in paediatrics working at Bristol Children’s Hospital. While working at BCH I co-created the ODP podcast – PIPcast (www.pipcast.co.uk) where I have been lucky to speak to ODPs and other professionals on subjects that affect the everyday practitioner, while also being able to share events like the SHU conference to the ODP world. Since 2018 I have been working as a lecturer at Cardiff University where I have since become the lead for admissions and simulation while teaching across a variety of modules on both undergraduate and post-graduate courses.
