As part of the undergraduate degree you are expected to spend a lot of your time in a clinical placement setting.
By training in a real life environment we give you the opportunity to integrate theory in practice. This will enable you to develop competencies such as:
Patient Care Skills
Communication Skills
Clinical Reasoning Skills
These skills are essential to become HCPC Registered and competent, autonomous practitioners upon qualification.
Mentoring students out on placement is important and is actually part of a diagnostic radiographers clinical practice -embedded in the society of radiographers code of conduct. More information on mentoring and support out in placement and what is expected can be found on the SHU AHP Practice Educators Website.
1. Students spend a large proportion of time in clinical
2. Clinical placements cover a wide geographical area
3. Our students will receive a wide range of clinical experiences
4. Students are supported in their clinical placements by academic as well as clinical staff.
5.Our academic team offers a breadth of clinical experience.
Our placements cover a wide geographical area and students will go to at least two placement sites. Generally this is one place in the first year and a different place in second year. Students may be placed at any one of the sites although carers responsibilities are taken into account. Some placements are commutable however some students will need to stay hospital accommodation whilst on clinical placement.
Whilst we do try to take into account personal circumstances such as dependants you should be aware you may be placed at any one of these sites.
