Accelerated Reader Words - As of Friday, we have read 212,816,304 words this year according to our AR Quizzes.

STUDENT NEWS
Million Word Reader Contest - March Million Word Madness Reading competition sign ups starting. Students can sign up in the library or email or Jupiter message me to sign up.
This is a competition for students in teams of two and staff (individually) to compete. The competition will be from March 1st to April 7th. AR quizzes taken by students in March will count towards their word counts. Staff will report their pages read weekly. Leading readers will receive prizes at the end of the competition.
No Toys At School - Do you love toys? So do we and the best place to keep them is at home. Toys at schools are distracting and are not permitted. Leave your toys at home.
ORHS Band Information - After the open house, a number of parents have asked questions about the ORHS instrumental music offerings and band rehearsal schedules. For more information, CLICK HERE.
Band Concert - Our fabulous music department will be putting on their winter concert on February 18th at 3:00 PM. Come and watch our amazing musicians!
Spirit Week - We have a spirit week this week! Don't forget to dress up for Spirit week! Show your school spirit and dress up!
Spring Musical - Arrr, me hearties! The Drama Club be callin’ all brave souls to auditions for the springtime musical, happenin’ on Tuesday, February 10th! Come see if ye’ve got the grit to sail the high seas with us. If ye’ve questions gnawin’ at yer mind, seek out the Captain herself, Ms. Oliver. Yo ho!
REMINDER: Marina's Got Talent!- It is time to show off your talents, Marina, at this year's Talent Show! The talent show will be held on March 10 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Auditions will be held on 2/23 and 2/24 in room 24 from 2:30 to 3:30. See Mrs. Olson or Mr. Williams if you have questions.
Lincoln's Birthday - Lincoln's Birthday, will be recognized this year on February 14. It honors Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States. Lincoln is remembered for his leadership during the Civil War, his efforts to preserve the Union, and his role in ending slavery through the Emancipation Proclamation and the passage of the 13th Amendment. His commitment to democracy, equality, and national unity made a lasting impact on American history. The day serves as a tribute to his legacy and the principles of freedom and justice that he championed. To learn more about President Lincoln, click on the video below.

Students need one athletic packet per year for sports. Completed packets must be turned in no later than noon on the first tryout day. Packets will not be accepted after 12:00 PM on tryout days. There are no exceptions.

PTC Online Silent Auction is Live! - After a couple of days’ delay, the MVMS PTC is excited to kick off our online auction fundraiser, featuring a great mix of donations, services, and gift certificates for parents and families. We’re incredibly grateful to our local businesses for their generous contributions in support of our school, students, teachers, and families. After School Pop-up classes Two classes are being offered the week of February 17 for a ONE-DAY class but the cooking class is offered 3 times that week! Registration now open through Homeroom.
Class #1, “ROAD TO BAJA”
A pop-up cooking class! Student chefs will cook:
Big Beef Baja Burritos w/carne asada, homemade chunky guacamole, fries, sour cream and lots of cheese! Also, cucumber & jicama salad, fried churro chips w/chocolate sauce and of course Jarritos Sodas!
Class #2, ART SPARK!
Chocolate Tasting & Drawing Class is a sweet, skill-boosting experience for middle school artists! Using the grid method, students will create realistic chocolate drawings while leveling up their drawing skills with colored pencils and a touch of acrylic paint. For added inspiration and a sweet experience a chocolate tasting is included! Register through Homeroom.

EDCOE Share Your Voice: Parent & Caregiver Survey – $25 Digital Gift Card
Hello families and caregivers,
The Redwood Institute of Social Research (RISR), the El Dorado County Commission for Youth and Families, First 5 El Dorado, and the Early Care & Education Planning Council (LPC) at EDCOE invite parents and caregivers of children ages 0–12 to complete a brief survey about your experiences with childcare—including infant care, preschool, transitional kindergarten (TK), before/after‑school programs, and vacation care.

The Art club meets on Fridays from 2:15 to 3:15 in room 32. The club will begin on September 12th and each session is limited to 15 students. There will be four sessions this year and students may sign up in the office.

Honor Society
Honor Society - Honor Society is beginning! Marina Village Honor Society focuses on character, leadership, service, and scholarship. Members will meet at school 1-2 times a month during lunch to work on projects that benefit our community. There will also be opportunities for fun! To be considered, candidates must meet the following criteria:
be in 8th Grade during the 2025-26 school year
earned a 4.0 GPA during the third trimester of 7th Grade (B in advanced math is OK)
Teachers agree that you demonstrate positive character traits in class.

Garden Club is back this year with a new name, One Green Step, and is running during lunches! Ms. Gina is running it we are excited to continue having our students work on the beautification and functionality of our garden. Come and join us in creating this beautiful space!
