Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day - January 19th, is the third Monday in January when we honor the Reverend and civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. To learn more, see the video below.
Spelling Bee - Are you a great speller? The 44th annual El Dorado County Spelling Bee is coming up in May and we are forming our two Marina Village teams. 6th grade try-outs will be on Jan. 29 during lunch in room 12. 7th and 8th grade try-outs will also be on Jan. 29, but after school in room 31. See Mrs. Goertz or Mrs. Samrick with any questions.
Marina's Got Talent!- It is time to show off your talents, Marina, at this year's Talent Show! The talent show will be held on March 10 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Auditions will be held on 2/23 and 2/24 in room 24 from 2:30 to 3:30. See Mrs. Olson or Mr. Williams if you have questions.
Marina Bands - The band performance that was scheduled for 1/20 has been cancelled.

Sweatpants/Sweatshirts - Are you interested in sweatpants or sweatshirts (considered Spirit Wear) that can be worn in PE class? Purchase those items all year long online. They cannot be ordered in the office:

Marina Village Athletic Packet

Students need one athletic packet per year for sports. Completed packets must be turned in no later than noon on the first tryout day. Packets will not be accepted after 12:00 PM on tryout days. There are no exceptions.

PTC Meeting - The next Parent Teacher Committee meeting will be in the conference room on Wednesday, 1/21, at 12:00 PM. All are welcome!
8th-grade parents - Your help is needed to plan the promotion party! Please attend our first planning meeting in the library at Marina Village on Tuesday, January 27th from 5:30 - 6:30. Join a committee to plan food, games, music, prizes, etc... to make it a great experience for your promoting 8th graders! The Art club meets on Fridays from 2:15 to 3:15 in room 32. The club will begin on September 12th and each session is limited to 15 students. There will be four sessions this year and students may sign up in the office.

Honor Society
Honor Society - Honor Society is beginning! Marina Village Honor Society focuses on character, leadership, service, and scholarship. Members will meet at school 1-2 times a month during lunch to work on projects that benefit our community. There will also be opportunities for fun! To be considered, candidates must meet the following criteria:
be in 8th Grade during the 2025-26 school year
earned a 4.0 GPA during the third trimester of 7th Grade (B in advanced math is OK)
Teachers agree that you demonstrate positive character traits in class.

Math Club - Math club begins in room 23 on Friday, September 26. Join us for some problem solving, puzzles, and strategies to succeed in math competitions.
One Green Step
Garden Club is back this year with a new name, One Green Step, and is running during lunches! Ms. Gina is running it we are excited to continue having our students work on the beautification and functionality of our garden. Come and join us in creating this beautiful space!

Ongoing Items
EDUHSD Open Enrollment - The El Dorado Union High School District is offering a Limited Open Enrollment to El Dorado High School, Ponderosa High School and Union Mine High School for the 2026-2027 school year. The limited open enrollment is open to incoming 9th graders who would like to attend El Dorado High School, Ponderosa High School, or Union Mine High School but who do not reside in the school’s attendance boundary. The El Dorado Union High School District will accept Limited Open Enrollment Applications beginning Monday, December 1, 2025. The deadline is Friday, January 30, 2026 at 4:00 pm.
