STUDENT NEWS
Black American Day - Black American Day, observed on March 5th, is a commemorative day in California dedicated to recognizing the contributions and achievements of Black Americans throughout history. Established by the state legislature in 1970, it is an educational observance intended to highlight the rich cultural heritage and historical impact of Black Americans. The date was chosen to honor Crispus Attucks, a Black patriot who was the first person killed in the Boston Massacre on March 5, 1770, making him one of the earliest martyrs of the American Revolution. His courage and sacrifice mark an early chapter in the fight for American independence. As we observe this day, let’s take time to learn, reflect, and celebrate the leaders, innovators, and changemakers who have helped build a more just and inclusive society. To learn more about Crispus Attucks, see the video below.
Conservation/Bird/and Arbor Day - March 7, the anniversary of the birthday of Luther Burbank, known as Conservation, Bird, and Arbor Day on which day schools shall include exercises and instruction on the economic value of birds and trees, and the promotion of a spirit of protection toward them, and as to the economic value of natural resources, and the desirability of their conservation. To learn more about Luther Burbank's contributions, see the video below.
