What is the MVMS Bell Schedule? Here is the MVMS Bell Schedule.
Is there a map of the MVMS campus? Here is the MVMS Campus Map.
What is Jupiter and Aeries? Students and teachers use Jupiter, a web-based program to receive real-time access to homework, grades, discipline, teacher communications, etc. Students will obtain their log-in info from their teachers. Aeries, also web-based management system for schools has attendance, report cards, student/parent data including student ID# and emergency contact info, etc.
How do parents log into Jupiter and/or Aeries? Parents will receive an email from our IT Tech Director late summer about log-in procedures for Aeries parent portal and Jupiter. If you are coming from a RUSD elementary school, chances are you already have used Aeries parent portal but it is mandatory in middle school.
What are the bus options for Marina Village? Bus routes do change yearly based on demand. Please see the transportation website: Click Here
What is the car drop-off & pick-up procedure for school days? Students should be on campus by 7:50, the first bell rings at 7:55. Students should be in a classroom seat by the second bell at 8:00. If you need to park your vehicle, use the parking spots along the office building or over by the gym. Do not park in the car-line or the spots labeled "Staff" or the red curb areas. Always be aware while driving on campus and stay off of your cell phone for the safety of our students and staff.
How does Marina Village Middle School communicate with the learning community? Marina Village sends emails, texts, and posts on the Marina Village web page. We strive to provide timely communicating so make sure to read what we send out. We try not to inundate you; however, as we know you are busy and may have more than one student in school.
Are students issued lockers at Marina Village Middle School? Students will be issued a PE locker to allow them to change clothes, but there are no other lockers on campus for textbooks or other items.
How do we order hot lunch or ala carte items? This is done online, https://rescuecafe.org/. Each student has an account that funds can be added to in order to purchase 'extra' items all year long. School lunches are provided free to all students if they choose to take one. The à la carte (extra) items are not free. Students may also bring a lunch from home, of course. A meal delivery service is not an option. If your student forgets their lunch at home, parents can drop it off in the office and put it on the drop-off shelf, and your student can check that shelf before lunchtime. Lunches are not delivered to your student in class.
How do I report an absence? Leave a message on our attendance line, 916-933-3993, option 0, and follow the instructions. You do not need to talk to a live person to report absence, but we do need a reason for the absence, or the school will call you asking for one later that day. Automated attendance calls go out at 10:00 each day.
If my child forgets something for the school day, can I bring it to him/her? Items can be dropped off at the School Office with the understanding that your student will check the office 'drop-off' shelf for any forgotten items. The items will not be delivered to students during the school day. Please communicate with your student before this happens so that they are aware to come to the office to check for items.
How can I check out my child during school hours? An adult must check in at the office, sign the student out, and Student Services will call the student out of class to the office.
Is there a student handbook for Marina Village Middle School? Here is the handbook for Marina Village Middle School.
How do I purchase PE clothes? Clothes for the PE class can be purchased online anytime through the Contributions and Payments Page here in the newsletter. A link is on the homepage. Starting late July, PE uniforms can be purchased all year long online. Parents purchase PE clothes online, and then your student will be sized and receive his/her uniform in PE class from a PE teacher. The first couple of weeks of school, students will not be dressing in PE uniforms to give families time to purchase and teachers time to hand out PE clothing.
Do the kids bring their laptops to school? No, students will have access to a Chromebook on campus, but are not encouraged to bring their personal devices to school.
Medication process? Medications need to be documented and turned into the Health Office Nurse or Student Services Secretary, both in the School Office. There is a mandatory form for your student's physician to complete, sign, and then return it to Marina. This includes all medication, whether prescription or not (Advil, cough drops, inhalers, Tylenol...). For questions, contact the Health Office, 916-933-3993, x6506 at Marina.
When do we get info on clubs? Clubs start and stop throughout the school year. Information about clubs will be issued in the weekly newsletter.**
Is the library available after school for sixth graders who need to stay after school? The library is open most days until 3:15, and students are welcome to stay after school.
What would you suggest we do over the summer to help our kids prepare for sixth grade? Students are encouraged to keep reading over the summer and encourage them to practice their math facts.
What types of volunteering options are available for parents? Our PTC (www.marinavillagemiddleschool.org) is a great place for parents to volunteer, and we welcome the help. Since the format for middle school is different from elementary, classroom volunteers do not look quite the same. I would reach out to your students' teachers to offer help in the classroom.
MATHEMATICS
Is there a flowchart for MVMS mathematics? Here is the flowchart for MVMS mathematics courses.
When will students be tested for advanced math placement? Students will be notified by their 5th-grade teachers about the advanced math placement test, which will happen at Marina Village on May 15th.
Do advanced math students take their math class with other sixth graders, or do they have seventh-grade students in their class? We strive to group all of our sixth graders together in one class. However, if we have a large number of advanced math students, they may be assigned to take their class with 7th graders. It is not uncommon that this occurs, but most sixth-grade students do well in that setting, and we have not had issues.
**Some non-school-sponsored clubs will occasionally be noted in the newsletter. These are for informational purposes only, and these clubs are not sponsored by Marina Village. Examples include Hands for Hope, the Mountain Bike Club, etc.
